As a Network Engineer, you will be supporting our Network Operations Team and support a leading federal healthcare organization, NIAID, focused on scientific research to better understand, treat, and ultimately prevent infectious, immunologic and allergic diseases. The Network Operations team consists of ~6 engineers focused on engineering and responsible for lessening the workload for the Senior Network engineers on the team. Tasks and responsibilities in this role include, but are not limited to the following: design, configuration, managing IT projects, troubleshooting, cabling, racking/swapping equipment, maintaining monitoring tools, and fulfilling service requests.
This is an onsite role in Rockville, MD with the ability to work from home 1-2 days a week.
3+ years of hands-on experience installing and maintaining network systems (i.e. Cisco networking equipment, routers, and switches (physical and virtual)
3+ years experience troubleshooting network related issues
3+ years of experience using Network Performance Monitoring software to address network incidents
Cisco Data Center technologies; NX-OS and/or ACI
Cisco Catalyst Switching
Expertise in IP addressing, subnets, and VLANs
Working knowledge of network protocol analysis
2+ years with familiarity within a typical network and server systems and solutions within the federal government departments and agencies
Expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.
Capable of designing and planning network systems including the creation of specs and architecture schematics
Capable of conducting testing of network design
A working knowledge of SNMP, RADIUS, Spanning-Tree, vPC, HA, and IPSec
Experience with dynamic routing protocols
Experience with multi-mode fiber, single-mode fiber, ethernet
Cloud Agnostic Networking (Microsoft Azure or AWS)
Strong written and communication skills
Strong customer service/end user communication
Strong documentation skills
Eager to continually learn new technologies
Creative problem-solving abilities
Ability to properly prioritize multiple simultaneous tasks
