GDIT is seeking a full time Scientific Deputy Project Manager to support a large services contract for a client in Atlanta GA.  The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience managing complex projects inclusive of diverse technical staff.  Project management certification or comparable experience or qualification is required as is demonstrated proficiency in people management.  A life science background is preferred. The incumbent will work alongside of an experienced project manager supporting ongoing staff management activities as well as documentation, tracking and reporting compliance. This position will support overall project management to ensure that services provided are of the highest quality, are cost contained, and are carried out in an effective and responsive manner. This is a customer-facing role and strong customer engagement skills are essential. 

  • Work collaboratively with Program Manager as assigned to ensure effective and efficiency staff management and excellence in overall contract execution
  • Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, reports and related contract administrative requirements to client and GDIT standards.
  • Coordinate and staff and client meetings as required for effective project execution and communications
  • Ensure project priorities are clearly defined by client and resourced appropriately for on time delivery.
  • Support staff management ensuring performance of ongoing laboratory operations in compliance with all approved procedures, methods and policies including CLIA, ISO, and client requirements.
  • Support staff management through mentoring staff in development, implementation and execution of efficient and effective laboratory workflow processes to ensure timely delivery of results
  • Ensure all quality control and quality assessment reviews, approvals, and issue mitigations are performed as required
  • Track personnel performance and growth through continual monitoring of tangible metrics where applicable and review with client technical leadership.
  • Remain accessible to staff at all times to provide consultation to resolve problems in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Advise, coach and mentor staff on an ongoing basis to affect a culture of professional development, workplace satisfaction and excellence in delivery.
  • Adhere to and uphold all applicable compliance regulations as well as all relevant Codes of Conduct and Ethical Responsibility, compliance policies and procedures, waste and abuse laws
  • Provide timely, accurate, and objective employee performance evaluations, goal setting, feedback, training and competencies and where needed documented corrective actions
  • Ensure maintenance of all records consistent with federal, clinical, organizational and industry standards.
  • Actively communicate, collaborate with and contribute to other functional areas and drive to achieve the best development and business results for the GDIT and our client
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, medical technology, environmental science, or related discipline
  • PMP, Six Sigma Lean, or comparable project management certification
  • 3+ years managing multidisciplinary teams with varying levels of education and experience
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Ability to work successfully as part of a team
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced and dynamic environment
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Self-starter
  • Masters or PhD in chemistry, biology, environmental science, or other physical sciences (equivalent in experience may be substituted)
  • 3+ years’ experience working in a laboratory setting
  • 3+ years managing multidisciplinary teams of scientific staff with varying levels of education and experience is highly desired
  • Familiarity with the policies and protocols of ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 13485, ISO/IEC 15189 and ISO/IEC 17025 and the regulatory requirements of CLIA (42 CFR 493), Good Laboratory Practices (21 CFR 58) and Quality System Regulation (21 CFR 820)
  • Active certification by one or more recognized laboratory professional organizations such as ASCP or CAP
