We are seeking a Senior Backup Administrator to support the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) in Rockville, MD. As a Senior Backup Administrator you will support day-to-day operations for the Enterprise Backup environment. You will be part of a team of eight systems administrators / engineers responsible for protecting a 20PB multi-geographic Enterprise environment using CommVault software to protect Infinidat, NetApp, and HPC environments.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Collaborating with the NIAID OEB/DCOT team to solve challenges around successfully protecting NIAIDs electronic data
Assisting with testing new backup solutions and proof of concepts (POCs)
Performing regular tape changes and maintain tape inventories
Troubleshooting to resolve backup issues related to backup software and tape or disk library failures
Monitoring overall health of enterprise backup environment and respond to alerts and issues in a timely manner
Installing, configuring, and updating backup software as necessary
Responding to backup and restore requests, and requests to add or delete backup clients
Completing quarterly backup audit to ensure compliance with backup policies
Completing daily and monthly reports that identify failures in backup environment, trends, and overall health of the backup environment
Updating backup environment components to meet security compliance requirements.
Participating with other team members on rotating schedule to complete weekly tape rotation to send backup tapes offsite for secure protection
Required Qualifications and Skills:
BS/BA (or equivalent) and five years related experience
Minimum of three years experience supporting, administering, and configuring one or more of the following backup software technologies – CommVault, Networker, or NetBackup
Knowledge and understanding of data protection technologies, deduplication, data replication, encryption, and the interdependencies between backup clients and the backup environment, including the network, storage, and tape/disc libraries
Knowledge and understanding of Windows, Linux, and MAC operating systems as related to backup and restore processes
Experience designing solutions for or supporting Disaster Recovery and COOP for Enterprise Storage or Backup
Knowledge and understanding of VMWare
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to write standard operating procedures
Ability to clearly explain recommendations about backup technologies or issues in a professional manner.
