General Dynamics Information Technology is seeking a System Engineer to provide application and operating system support and security vulnerability remediation. This individual must be a forward thinker who can proactively plan, multitask, troubleshoot, and possesses excellent organizational and communication skills. The position is in support of GDIT’s contract with the Administrative Office of United States Courts – Administrative Office Technology Office (AOUSC-AOTO) in Washington DC. This position requires U.S. Citizenship and background investigation for eligibility for a government clearance.
The successful candidate must have experience supporting Microsoft Windows 2012 R2 and/or 2016 operating systems and applications in an enterprise environment. The position requires deep technical knowledge of systems, networks, and application security as well as a solid understanding of enterprise-level security frameworks, policies, processes, and standards. The candidate must have strong analytical skills for troubleshooting complex issues, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. The position is part of the Engineering and Operations team consisting of engineers, system administrators, and subject matter experts who report to the Engineering Systems Manager. Responsibilities for this position include:
Provide daily operational support for Microsoft Windows operating systems and applications
Review problems to understand the root causes of issues and ensure proper fixes are implemented
Monitor application and operating system performance and analyze and document problems.
Monitors security feeds and dashboards in support of Continuous Monitoring activities
Monitors various Internet and open source information feeds for emerging vulnerabilities and threat actors, determining their applicability to the operating environment.
Conducts vulnerability scans, interprets results and works with the Security Operations staff to find the appropriate remediation
Collaborates with the Security team to identify and remediate application and operating system vulnerabilities
Develop and maintain standards and procedures for applications across a complex computing infrastructure.
Point of contact for application vendors and coordinate vendor support for problems escalated from support areas.
Responsible for developing and maintaining comprehensive documentation for multiple environments.
Collaborate with system administrators, engineers, and the client to ensure proper integration of applications.
Participate in capacity planning, performance discussions, and assist in the development and execution of disaster recovery exercises.
Provides phone support to users during the time of peak demand as needed.
Experience supporting Microsoft Windows server 2012 R2 and/or 2016 in an enterprise environment
Knowledge of general management and auditing techniques for identifying problems, gathering and analyzing pertinent information, forming conclusions, developing solutions and implementing plans consistent with management goals.
Experience remediating system vulnerabilities
Software and hardware troubleshooting skills
Ability to multitask and function in a fast-paced environment
Excellent customer support skills (In-person and on the phone).
Strong communication skills
Experience automating processes using PowerShell
Experience documenting processes and creating work instructions
Experience working as a part of a large team and working directly with customers.
Experience with Patch Management Systems (e.g. Quest/Dell Kace 1000)
Experience coordinating and overseeing the implementation of security patches.
Knowledge of the operating characteristics of various operating systems, e.g. Windows 7 and 10, Windows server 2008/2012/2016, iOS.
Plan, manage and provide guidance pertaining to IT Security to include all phases of computer security (i.e., hardware, software, and telecommunications equipment, installation, and evaluation
Experience with Nessus Vulnerability Scanner or similar enterprise Vx scanning products
Experience using enterprise log management software such as Splunk, Tripwire, LogRhythm
Experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining current Windows server products including Microsoft IIS, Windows Clustering.
Experiencing maintaining, troubleshooting, and upgrading a multi-site Active Directory infrastructure
Experience creating and troubleshooting Group Policy
Experience troubleshooting connectivity issues due to a firewall, load balancer, proxy, and server/workstation operating system.
Technical knowledge of and experience with installing, upgrading, configuring and deploying multi-tier applications
Experience with Linux operating systems
Knowledge of Remedy ticketing system
Master’s degree from an accredited higher education institution and a minimum of 11 years of progressive IT experience or equivalent experience.
4+ years supporting Windows/Linux servers
ITIL Foundations Certification a plus
Certifications relating to IT Security (CISSP, GIAC, Security+) a plus
