Job Description

For the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), GDIT provides enterprise IT services for DHS’s biometric identity management system (IDENT) and the Office of Biometric Identity Management (OBIM) to store, match, share, and analyze biometric and biographic data in support of DHS’s strategic mission. GDIT’s O&M services support break-fix of current OBIM functional capabilities, as well as security remediation activities and developmental engineering (such as prototyping new code or configurations of OBIM functionality). GDIT is looking for a senior infrastructure systems engineer with a strong background in leading and managing enterprise IT infrastructure systems, processes, and talent. The successful candidate will serve as Deputy to and under the direction of the Infrastructure Team Lead/Manager, over-watching the enterprise infrastructure, managed services, and processes to include daily administration, planning, installation, and other infrastructure-related O&M support. The ideal candidate may also serve as a key technical expert across multiple areas of expertise on our diverse infrastructure team. Essential responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Performs enterprise-wide strategic systems planning and analysis
  • Serves as deputy for supervising and coordinating enterprise IT infrastructure operations
  • Supports targeted efforts improve systems reliability, maintainability, availability, and recoverability
  • Participates in planning, designs, technical reviews, and implementations impacting enterprise infrastructure
  • Supports continuous assessment of system utilization, monitoring response time, and detection and correction of enterprise performance issues
  • Supports development and prioritization of work plans and LOEs for systems integration tasks and team members
  • Establishes and implements standards for information systems operating procedures 
  • Diagnoses root causes and resolves complex systems performance problems
  • Provides technical guidance in automated support tools 
  • Develops and executes testing plans and procedures

Required Skills / Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • DHS HQ EOD required to start; must be able to obtain DHS Final Suitability
  • Bachelors degree (or equivalent) and 8+ years of related experience
  • Engineering experience working on complex IT projects in an enterprise environment
  • Engineering experience across multiple hardware and virtual platforms and operating systems (e.g., AIX, RHEL, Windows)
  • Experience leading technical teams and resources in an enterprise environment
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in effective planning, teamwork and collaboration, and resource management
  • Exceptional personnel leadership, mentorship, and motivational skills

Desired Skills / Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of related experience
  • Masters degree in systems engineering, computer science, information systems, or other relevant technical field of study
  • Experience with large scale, enterprise IT O&M, technologies, and programs and with best practices/standards for ensuring highly available, robust, stable, consistent, and secure enterprise environments
  • Experience in any of the following technical areas:
    -- Virtualized IBM AIX environments, Virtual Network, Virtual SAN (design, build, test, maintain)
    -- PowerHA Cluster, Veritas Cluster, Oracle RAC Cluster, IBM Shared Storage Pool Cluster
    -- Live Partition Mobility
    -- Large-scale VMware implementations with automated solutions across a variety of applications and systems
    -- vSphere systems administration and support including VMotion, HA, vCenter, storage migrations
    -- vSphere problem determination, capacity planning and root cause analysis
    -- vSphere Thin Provisioning, Resource Pools, Host Profiles, and 3rd party plug-ins
    -- Enterprise-level patching and formulating patching/remediation plans based on Client needs
  • Strong understanding of large-scale DevOps and implementation experience with automation solutions across a variety of applications and systems
  • Ability to use data to measure success along with taking responsibility for the quality of services delivered
  • Demonstrated initiative to innovate and improve value of delivered services
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
