We are seeking a Network Tools Administrator/Engineer to support the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Center for Technology (CIT) by delivering Information Technology services and products that ensure NIH scientists and administrative staff receive the IT support they need.

This position is 100% remote at this time but once COVID restrictions are listed, you must be able to work at the client site in Bethesda.


You will have the opportunity to help provide the NIH and Health and Human Services community with a secure and reliable IT infrastructure.  You will be at the center of network data analysis for all of NIH.


  • Works with customers and engineers to perform data analysis and packet captures of traffic to assist in troubleshooting efforts across the network.
  • Manage Network Monitoring Infrastructure, primarily including PerfSonar, Cisco Stealthwatch and Riverbed Steel Central implementations.
  • Performs management and upgrade of monitoring solutions.
  • Evaluates new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network
  • Respond to customer tickets and work on projects as assigned.
  • Coordinates the acquisition of hardware and software as needed.
  • Performs training of staff on tool solutions.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • BS/BA (or equivalent) and five years related experience
  • Expertise with data analysis solutions, such as Riverbed SteelCentral and Cisco Stealthwatch
  • Minimum of five years supporting Network Infrastructure, preferably Cisco
  • Five years experience managing PerfSonar implementations.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust

Desired Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum of three years Linux Server administration experience
