GDIT's Military Health Team is hiring an Editor in Chief to support the Medical Surveillance Monthly Report (MSMR) for the Armed Forces Health Surveillance Division (AFHSD) based out of Falls Church, VA. Expectation is to work 1-2 days in the office, so the ideal candidate should be local to the DMV area.
The Armed Forces Health Surveillance Division (AFHSD) is the central epidemiologic resource for the U.S. Armed Forces, conducting medical surveillance to protect those who serve our nation in uniform and allies who are critical to our national security interests.

The Medical Surveillance Monthly Report (MSMR), in continuous publication since April of 1995, is the AFHSD’s flagship publication. The mission of the MSMR is to provide its readers with unbiased, scientifically rigorous, evidence-based information regarding the status, trends, and factors impacting the physical and mental health of U.S. military members. The objectives of the MSMR are to provide and disseminate medical surveillance information necessary to inform, motivate, and empower commanders, their surgeons, and medical staffs to design, implement, and resource programs that enhance health, fitness, and readiness for servicemembers.

Position Summary:
The Editor in Chief of the Medical Surveillance Monthly Report (MSMR) provides support to the Epidemiology and Analysis section (E&A) of the AFHSD in the production of the MSMR. In providing such support, the Editor in Chief collaborates and consults with the other full-time MSMR editorial staff in maximizing their contributions to each issue of the MSMR. The Editor in Chief leads the other staff in evaluating all content (e.g., photographs, manuscripts, tables, figures, graphs) and makes decisions on appropriateness for publication in the MSMR. The Editor in Chief also performs substantive reviews and provides editorial feedback on all MSMR submissions. The Editor in Chief may also engage in the development and/or design of analyses for AFHSD-generated MSMR manuscripts and in translating data analysis results into understandable and actionable information disseminated via the MSMR.
