And our work depends on a Data Center Manager (DCM) joining our team to support our FDIC activities in Arlington, VA. This resource will be responsible for overseeing and managing all engineering resources and projects. U.S. Citizenship and background investigation is required; you must have a current clean financial background. (Though the position is 8-5 M-F, the role requires flexibility to support issues or planned activities after hours, weekends and holidays as needed.) Successful candidate must possess and be able to demonstrate technical skills and engineering attitude for success, dedication and commitment.
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation [FDIC] mission is to preserve and promote public confidence in the U.S. financial systems by insuring deposits in banks and thrift institutions for up to $250,000; by identifying, monitoring, and addressing risks to the deposit insurance funds; and by limiting the effect on the account and the financial system when a bank or thrift institution fails. GDIT provides the day-to-day operational services to FDIC in support of infrastructure, facilities, hardware, software, and systems. GDIT supports operational security, client support/help desk, data center operations, asset management, and systems engineering service areas.
The FDIC maintains a primary and a secondary data center which should be considered complex, in that it supports all classes of servers, storage, databases, networking, applications, and security. At a minimum, the DCM shall develop a strategy of operation that is consistent with and leverages industry best practices while supporting the U.S. Government and FDIC Security Disciplines. The DCM must implement standards, processes, controls, and discipline across the operation to deliver reliable and consistent services. In addition; Oversees and manages the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serves as liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line management. Reviews status of projects and budgets, manages schedules, and prepares status reports. Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives. Develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers, line managers, clients and other stakeholders.
To qualify, you must meet these basic qualifications:
1. Demonstrated experience managing Data Center Operations similar in size,
complexity, dynamics, availability and scope to that of the contract.
2. Demonstrated experience managing mainframe and server physical and logical
security, disaster recovery failover, business continuity, and batch job scheduling
in mainframe and distributed (i.e., Windows and UNIX) operating system
3. Demonstrated experience managing large, complex server environments
containing over 2,000 physical servers that host over 15,000 physical or virtual
4. Demonstrated experience planning and executing server consolidation and
virtualization efforts on Windows, Solaris, and Red Hat Linux in a production
5. Demonstrated experience managing enterprise class storage across server
technologies (e.g., Windows, Solaris, Red Hat, VMware) implementing operational
best practices, provisioning standards, and storage migrations and optimizations.
6. Demonstrated experience with implementing ITIL standards and processes in a
large, highly available, dynamic data center operation.
7. Demonstrated experience managing a 7x24x365 command center that monitors a
national service and manages faults and failures proactively and reactively.
8. Demonstrated experience managing IBM Z10 mainframe with z/OS Operating
