Instrumentation Engineer – Must have, at minimum, a Bachelor’s Degree in electrical or electronics engineering from an accredited college or university with at least 5 years of experience with professional & technical knowledge of the instrumentation. Professional knowledge is defined as the comprehensive, in-depth knowledge of advanced concepts and principles, practices, and techniques for the design, development, and deployment of real-time data collection systems & telemetry with remote access capabilities. Technical knowledge is defined as being able to perform the following: LabView or equivalent programming, calibrating, testing, and troubleshooting of real-time data collection systems; installing sensors; fabricating sensors and electronic circuits; providing full technical documentation of the system design to include technical instrumentation drawing & layouts, schedules, bill of materials, and time and budget estimates
LabVIEW Programming experience – Must have, at minimum, 5 years knowledge in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or Mathematics which demonstrates a professional & technical knowledge of the programming real-time data collection systems. Builds and codes applications and/or models using various computer programming languages. Must possess and maintain a current National Instruments, Inc. ‘Certified LabVIEW Architect (CLA)’ certification for managing software engineering in LabVIEW and advanced architectures for LabVIEW. Must be proficient with communicating with test equipment & sensors using data communication protocols, including TCP/IP, Network Streams, Serial, HTTP and WebDAV.
Support Data Acquisition and Instrumentation efforts for FAA Airport Technology Research projects at the FAA Wm. J. Hughes Technical Center. The FAA Airport Safety R&D program has multiple research test facilities and test beds at US Airports to conduct research products and evaluate new technologies and systems.
The individual will be responsible for providing assistance and support for the following efforts:
• Developing instrumentation plans to meet the test objectives
• Preparing detailed test plans, including response testing and testing plans
• Preparing comprehensive and professional technical reports
• Preparing content for FAA websites, and designing and populating searchable databases for each experiment.
• Preparing and maintaining all in-house data viewing and analysis software
• Preparing and maintaining all data collection software
• Preparing and populating databases with data collected, performing data analysis and generating reports and presentations
