GDIT is seeking a Datacenter Engineer to support the National Library of Medicine (NLM) in Bethesda, Maryland. As a Datacenter Engineer supporting the world’s largest biomedical library, you will work in their datacenter supporting power, cooling, racks, management, and service. You will also respond to incidents, and help enhance the operation of their datacenter.


  • Collaborating with IT engineers to solve continue to support and optimize the NLM datacenter
  • Planning for and installing various equipment installations with minimal direction and oversight
  • Working with NLM engineers and equipment vendors to troubleshoot hardware, electrical, and environmental equipment in a timely manner
  • Maintaining operations logs and quality standards and interacting with Upper Management in planning upgrades and maintenance.


  • Bachelor’s in science in a relevant curriculum (or equivalent) and a minimum of five years related experience
  • Minimum of five years of experience in the Network Critical Infrastructure in a modern data center
  • Working knowledge of a multi-module three phase UPS system
  • Thorough understanding of single and three-phase AC Power, and DC Power and battery solutions
  • Good understanding of NFPA 70E and its ramifications
  • Working knowledge of Computer Room Air Handlers (CRAH) and Computer Room Air Conditioners (CRAC) units, their operational principals, configurations, and operation
  • Experience in assembling and installing IT racks from multiple vendors and good understanding how different styles of racks affect air flow
  • Experience setting up SNMP type devices for communication over a network
  • Working experience with Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) tool use and configuration
  • Knowledge and experience with communication software, such as Terra Term, Hyper Terminal or similar program


  • Specific background / training with MGE power system
  • Experience with a modular busway power distribution system
  • Experience with Liebert, Stulz, and/or APC cooling systems
  • Experience with Schneider-Electric’s DCE / DCO / PME DCIM suite
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD
  • Position requires physical ability to work on the floor of a data center, with some light lifting and the ability to deploy racks and data center infrastructure equipment under the raised floor or overhead utilizing ladders
