We are GDIT, one of the largest IT and mission services providers to the government. We offer our customers the power of choice through a vast cloud ecosystem.

GDIT is your place. You make it your own by bringing your ideas and unique perspective to our culture. By owning your opportunity at GDIT, you are helping us ensure today is safe and tomorrow is smarter. Our work depends on an AWS Cloud Infrastructure Architect joining our team to support the mission of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in Rockville, MD.

At GDIT, people are our differentiator. As an AWS Cloud Infrastructure Architect, you will work closely with 14 other innovative and savvy people to design, build, and manage infrastructure solutions in AWS.  You’ll help streamline our operations and processes, and further the adoption of DevOps best practices.  A focus on innovation and automating best practices is essential.  To be successful in this role, you will like being a part of a team, capable of teaching others, and explain the “why” behind complicated technical decisions.

In this role, a typical day will include the following:

  • Writing code to automate the infrastructure lifecycle, perform routine operational tasks, and create and support custom internal tools and CLIs.
  • Using your knowledge of AWS, Terraform, container orchestration platforms to build the infrastructure and tooling which underlies our custom AWS platform offerings.
  • Training product teams in technologies and frameworks to assist them in setting up the environment, build and deploy applications, and automate operational needs.
  • Working together with other Cloud Solutions Engineers or independently to develop prototypes and enhance or expand fundamental capabilities offered in the platform, such as CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and containerized or serverless workloads.
  • Participating in a daily stand-up meeting to report your accomplishments, plans for the day, and any roadblocks you encountered.  Your team will do the same, giving you an opportunity to understand and contribute to other ongoing initiatives.
  • Occasionally presenting to your team or our software developer colleagues, on DevOps best practices, new and interesting cloud technologies, and ways you approached and solved challenging technical issues during our Tech Talks webinar series.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • BA/BS or equivalent and 20 years related experience or a MS and 18 years of experience.
  • Minimum of five years of experience with AWS to include working knowledge of commonly used AWS services, such as Lambda, IAM, VPC, S3, EC2, CloudWatch and CloudTrail, Guard Duty, Route 53, RDS, and SSM
  • Minimum of eight years of experience deploying, configuring, and securing infrastructure in a large enterprise environment.
  • Experience applying and defining policies for AWS accounts to establish governance using AWS Organizations and Config, including writing custom Config Rules.
  • Working knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation to include writing templates and modules from scratch.
  • Hands-on experience with scripting languages, such as Ruby, JavaScript/Typescript, Python, Perl, Tcl, and/or Unix Shell.
  • Knowledge of Docker and hands-on experience in containerizing software applications; experience working with container orchestration and deployment platforms such as Kubernetes, AWS EKS or AWS ECS.
  • Experience with implementing and managing CI/CD workflows using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, AWS CodeBuild, GoCD or similar tools.
  • Experience using and managing Linux distributions including RedHat, CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu, or CoreOS/Flatcar.
  • Experience analyzing solutions components, understanding systems integration challenges, and identifying technology gaps in current components that must be resolved to reach future performance targets and functionality requirements in cloud infrastructure.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance level

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to clearly present ideas to both technical and non-technical users and staff to further the adoption of DevOps.
  • Experience designing and implementing technologies following NIST standards, such as SP 800-53, SP 800-190, and SP 500-291.
  • Experience designing and implementing REST API’s and using them to integrate tooling and automating workflows in a custom PaaS.

WHAT GDIT CAN OFFER YOU:

  • Full-flex work week
  • 401K with company match
  • Internal mobility team dedicated to helping you own your career
  • Collaborative teams of highly motivated critical thinkers and innovators
  • Ability to make a real impact on the world around you
