GDIT is seeking an Engineer with Robotic and Liquid Handling Automation expertise to provide laboratory support for enhancing laboratory capacity for comprehensive investigation into Influenza Virus. We are seeking an energetic and highly motivated individual to be fully responsible for liquid handler automated systems (e.g., TECAN). This position is located in the immunology and pathogenesis branch (IPB), Influenza Division, CDC. The purpose of this position is to provide key professional support in the mission of the IPB/influenza division with responsibilities for comprehensive analyses of immunological responses to influenza vaccination and infection in humans and research activities leading to improved control of influenza.
Configure and program (coding) automated/robotic liquid handling instruments to improve the throughput of influenza immunological assays.
Implement, maintain and improve the automation workflow for high throughput complex influenza immune assays, to contribute to the objectives to conduct comprehensive assessment of human immunity to influenza.
Assist and perform validation experiments with subject matter experts
Perform required maintenance and adaptations to support the automation system and its improvement
Assist in troubleshooting
Ability to work effectively with other members of a multifunctional dynamic team, and ability to handle multiple projects at one time in a fast-paced environment.
Required Skills and Experience:
BS in Robotics Engineering, ideally with experience with Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or related field (Masters degree is a plus)
2+ years of proven scientific automation/robotic experience
Experience operating and assisting in coding for automated liquid handling systems such as Tecan, Agilent, Perkin Elmer.
The ability to work independently and efficiently is essential
Desired Skills and Experience:
Working knowledge of Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry specifically influenza immunological or similar assay's or related fields
