The AA will assist customers with the shipment of their mail and packages. Other duties include opening, distributing incoming mail, newspapers, faxes, and other publications/documents; sorting, and researching mail to determine the correct mailing address or POC. The AA is expected to act in a professional manner with the customers either in person, on the phone or through email communication. The AA assists customers with all mailing requests to include proper addressing; pick-up, delivery; and scheduling courier schedules. The AA must possess excellent interpersonal skills to communicate in person and through written correspondence to facilitate mail delivery, and is responsible to keep detailed records/metrics of all mail transitioning through mail room to highlight trends and auditability. Metrics are basic and there is a template to follow. The mail room operating hours vary by location. Start times are from 6:30 - 7:30 am/closing times are 3:00 - 4:00 pm depending on location. The AA must be able to lift up to 501b as needed to transfer packages within the mail facility. Once trained, mail room employees can be assigned to any of the mail rooms within the Northern Virginia area to cover absences of other mail room employees. Government vehicle may be provided to facilitate travel between mail facilities if coverage change occurs on the same work day.
