General Dynamics Information Technology (IT) has partnered with NASA to consolidate select Procurement, Finance, Human Resources (HR), and Information Technology activities from the 10 NASA Centers into a single shared services center located at Stennis Space Center in southern Mississippi.
The mission of the NASA Shared Services Center (NSSC) is to provide timely, accurate, high-quality, cost-effective, and customer-focused support for select NASA business and technical services.
General Dynamics IT has an opportunity on the NSSC contract for an HR Technical Writer-Editor to contribute to our organization’s success in providing technical writing support services to NASA. This will be a casual position (as needed basis) with telework capability.
The NSSC provides technical writing services to NASA in the areas of Senior Executive Service (SES) appointments, SES Candidate Development Program packages and Presidential Rank Award nominations. The HR Technical Writer-Editor will have the privilege of supporting NASA’s senior-level employees and executives.
Eligible candidates for this position must have prior experience in evaluating, editing, and writing Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs) narratives as required by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. Additional experience in writing high-level Federal award nominations is also desired.
The candidate must have strong skills in grammar, punctuation, and writing/editing for clarity. Candidate must have strong/advanced skills in using Microsoft products (especially Word) and be proficient in maintaining version control and using Track Changes. Candidate must be able to work independently as well as with team members and must be willing/able to follow direction/processes.
The candidate must possess excellent interviewing skills and the ability to communicate appropriately with senior Federal personnel and executives, to obtain information needed for each product. The candidate must be able to work each assigned product through all stages to completion. The candidate must utilize appropriate writing/editing skills to effectively communicate ECQs’ competencies to the identified audience.
Bachelor’s degree required in English, Journalism, Communications, or related field.
4 or more years of work experience required.
Excellent grammar and writing/editing skills a must.
Excellent customer service skills dealing with all levels of personnel, including top-level executives.
Ability to research and incorporate related NASA information and NASA and Federal style guidelines.
Ability to work independently, meet strict deadlines, and adjust priorities as needed.
Ability to work on a team, take direction, follow processes, and learn.
Experience and knowledge of PC-based computers and software using the Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Power Point, Excel, and Outlook.
Presentation and Desktop Publishing (Adobe Creative Cloud) experience preferred.
Knowledge of the following areas helpful, but not required: Service Now (work tracking tool).
