And our work depends on a SYSTEMS Engineer joining our team to support AIRBORNE Advanced Tactical Datalink (ATDL) Engineering, Test & Evaluation activities at Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific (NIWC PAC) San Diego, CA.

Job Description Summary:

The ideal Systems Engineer candidate will have:

  • Experience with the MIDS JTRS Cryptographic Modernization Program to include National Security Agency (NSA) requirements for Tactical Communication Systems with experience in Communications Security (COMSEC) and Cryptologic Material Systems (CMS).
  • Experience with Link 16 tactical data links.
  • Ability to provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) related to Information Assurance (IA) evaluations involving Communications Security (COMSEC) and Cryptologic Material Systems (CMS) for ATDL systems.
  • Experience supporting the fielding of modernized cryptographic systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in engineering and support of the MIDS Cryptographic Modernization (CM) efforts for MIDS JTRS waveforms Link-16 Tactical Communications systems and TTNT.
  • Demonstrated in-depth experience supporting U.S and Foreign Military Tactical Hardware Defined Radios (HDR) and Software Defined Radios (SDR) Systems for training and technical data calls in relation to cryptographic subsystems on the MIDS family of TDL Systems.

Position duties and responsibilities include:

  • Provide engineering support for the integration and configuration of ATDL cryptographic components at domestic and foreign U.S. Military sites.
  • Maintain the COMSEC account exception list
  • Perform NSA signature encryption for various MIDS JTRS software packages and Mission Planning Files (MPF)
  • Evaluate TDL network architectures and provide operationally relevant Network Topology design inputs.
  • Support U.S. Naval Fleet technical data calls, working groups, and action items related to the initial implementation of ATDL cryptographic components.
  • Provide COMSEC technical support for newly implemented ATDL Systems.
  • Provide hands-on and/or virtual MIDS JTRS training, Key Loading Training as needed to the military community and various Naval platforms.
  • Diagnose and resolve problems; provide feedback on problematic areas; provide comments to technical documentation as required
  • Set parameters to optimize interoperability and connectivity for the system.
  • Perform system test and analysis as required.
  • Attend Information Assurance (IA) meetings as required.


  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years tactical systems analyst experience in DOD tactical communication systems projects.
  • 2 years current tactical communication system analysis experience to include TDL, ATDL, SDR, and/or related C4I systems.
  • Desired experience should include TDL/ATDL troubleshooting; analyzing requirements; requirements traceability; functional and performance T&E planning and execution.
  • Active Secret clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret
  • Ability to obtain NIWC PAC CAC card
  • Ability to travel CONUS and OCONUS
