U.S. Citizenship and background investigation is required; you must have a current clean financial background. (Though the position is 8-5 M-F, the role requires flexibility to support issues or planned activities after hours, weekends and holidays as needed.) Successful candidate must possess and be able to demonstrate technical skills and engineering attitude for success, dedication and commitment.
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation [FDIC] mission is to preserve and promote public confidence in the U.S. financial systems by insuring deposits in banks and thrift institutions for up to $250,000; by identifying, monitoring, and addressing risks to the deposit insurance funds; and by limiting the effect on the account and the financial system when a bank or thrift institution fails. GDIT provides the day-to-day operational services to FDIC in support of infrastructure, facilities, hardware, software, and systems. GDIT supports operational security, client support/help desk, data center operations, asset management, and systems engineering service areas. The FDIC Engineering team provides support to a plethora of cutting-edge technologies across the IT spectra. It has a state of the art development lab to test new functionality, architectures, and equipment. Engineers are tasked with developing and deploying innovative solutions to meet business requirements - not managing day to day, same technology operations.
The Senior Firewall Security Engineer is responsible for implementing, supporting and maintaining all aspects related to Palo Alto, Cisco ASA and FirePower firewalls at an enterprise level along with Cisco ESA (email security appliance). The engineer will maintain a strong focus on automation, self-service, rapid feedback, continuous improvement and leveraging best practices throughout.
Responsibilities: • The candidate should have solid knowledge of best current security practices, firewalls, network administration, application/web fundamentals, IP transit, routing protocols and all aspects of networking needed to support the required SLAs. Network fundamentals and firewall best practices plus troubleshooting are essential. • The candidate must possess a networking background with a good understanding of switching, network routing plus skills in managing and supporting firewalls. • Experience with Juniper, Cisco, and Palo Alto Firewalls • Experience with Cisco Fireye or comparable email security system • The candidate must have strong ability to troubleshoot a variety of issues and make recommendations for system changes, as needed, to resolve all technical issues in an efficient and timely manner. • Collaborate with solution architecture to devise infrastructure solutions most suitable to meet system requirements • Plan and coordinate system utilization, and performs growth analysis and capacity planning • Experience supporting mission critical, 24x7 systems • Design, implement, operate and maintain complex Layer 2 and Layer 3 corporate LAN/WAN networks. • Perform analysis, diagnosis and resolution of complex network problems for a variety of end users and recommend and implement corrective hardware and software solutions. • Provide senior level technical support and guidance to system engineers and telecommunications technicians on network and equipment issues
Qualifications: BS degree & 18 years (10 years specialized) OR Master's degree & 15 years (10 years specialized)
• Minimum of 4 years of enterprise network security experience (firewall, Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDPs), log management/reporting solutions) • Planning and deployment of new network security systems. • Resolution of tier 3 trouble incidents for firewalls, secure e-mail gateways, email encryption technologies, intrusion prevention systems (IPS), and network forensics tools. • Communicate and support security policy, deployment, and support needs. This role must work in a team environment to manage the security posture of an enterprise network, and enforce policies by updating and configuring security devices. • Communicate the security challenges associated and provide solutions to mitigate them. • Work with other engineers on technical requirements and communicate to management. • Knowledge of routing and switching fundamentals and products is essential. • Practical experience working in complex LAN/WAN environments • Practical experience supporting Palo Alto, Cisco Firepower/Sourcefire, and/or Cisco ASA firewalls • Practical experience with Splunk or comparable logging system for troubleshooting • Ability to work with minimal supervision, set priorities, and give attention to detail and quality, flexible, strong organizational and time management skills, ability to multi-task, ability to work individually and with a team, positive attitude, self-motivated, reliable, trustworthy, strong interpersonal skills, diplomacy, and ability to handle stress in professional manner. • Excellent interpersonal skills and effective in interfacing with internal and external customers fostering collaboration and establishing strong partnerships and relationships
