Our Cloud Platform team is looking for a Full Stack Platform Engineer/Developer to support the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). We are looking for a highly motivated engineer/developer who wants to solve tough technical challenges and learn and incorporate new technologies into their skillset. In this role, you would use a tech stack, including Java, Python, Ruby, XML, NodeJS, JSON, YAML and Microservices-based architecture in AWS. You will be engaged across the software development life cycle to create, enhance, and maintain platforms and capabilities in a collaborative and Agile environment.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Expand our front-end user interfaces, back end microservices, web services, cloud architectures, as well as databases and other persistent data stores

  • Design and develop specialized user solutions, applications and databases using a hybrid Agile approach within a DevOps environment

  • Maintain code integrity and organization

  • Collaborate with the rest of development team to design and launch new features

  • Develops code comments and clear code

  • Work with product owners and other development team members to determine new features and user stories needed in new/revised applications or large/complex development projects

  • Participate in code reviews with peers and managers to ensure that each increment adheres to original vision as described in the user story and all standard resource libraries and architecture patterns as appropriate

  • Respond to trouble/support issues for applications in production in order to keep application in production

  • Create or update documentation in support of development efforts, including detailed specifications, implementation guides, architecture diagrams or design documents

  • Leverage our DevOps tool stack to build, inspect, deploy, test and promote new or updated features

  • Participate in all team  planning, product demonstrations and team retrospectives

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • BA/BS (or equivalent experience) and eight years of relevant experience

  • Good understanding of AWS Infrastructure and enabling tools and services

  • Experience with full-stack development/design using modern programming languages, such as AWS JavaScript SDK, Node.js, JSON, and XML

  • Experience with CI/CD with knowledge of GitHub

  • Experience with Terraform

  • Working knowledge of Docker/Microservices

  • Experience with Agile development methodology

  • Must be able to obtain/maintain a Public Trust

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience building and supporting PaaS systems

  • Working knowledge with datastores, including MongoDB, DynamoDB, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, S3, Redshift, Redis, and Elasticsearch

  • Experience with implementing integration solutions with Microservices, RESTful Web Services and Web APIs

  • Experience with multiple Infrastructure as Code languages and tools

  • Development background and experience with Java, Python, and Ruby

  • Experience with cloud APIs and usage of push notifications

  • Experience in DevOps support and deployment
