Short Summary: The Cyber Security Engineer/Architect will provide strategic oversight and planning for applications architecture, design, and developing solutions to complex application problems or network concerns. Perform systems management and integration functions to include analyzing, documenting, and defining requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, hardware and operating system environment. Will analyze commercially available software to introduce into the customers infrastructure. Develops future technology and architectural advancements to support the architectural strategy, technology migration, and integration and evolution.

Long Summary: The Cyber Security Engineer/Architect performs a critical role by defining the operational and technical strategy used by the customer to protect systems and data.

As a Cyber Security Engineer/Architect, the individual will assist the customer in finding new technology and developing it into an implementable capability for Cyber Defense. Once the capability is developed enough for implementation, the incumbent will work with the stakeholder organizations to pilot and transition to a production capability. The individual will develop, coordinate, and communicate cutting edge cyber capabilities and serve as the primary stakeholder when delivering pilot or production capabilities. The individual will partner closely with mission partners to develop an understanding of mission needs, gaps analyses, and align new capabilities to those mission needs.

The Cyber Security Engineer/Architect will research new disruptive technology and its impact on the Cyber Security Industry as well as its impact to the customer and mission partners. The officer will be responsible for helping advance cyber security tradecraft to ensure consistent decision making across the organization. The individual will partner closely with Information System Security Managers (ISSMs) and the customer leadership to document and publish tradecraft exemplars, cyber tips, talking points, standard operating procedures, and official guidance. The individual will ensure customer leadership is aware of ongoing or anticipated strategic challenges, develop recommendations on a path forward, and pre-brief customer leadership in advance of key decisional forums.

Duties/Task and Responsibilities:

  • Called on to lead special projects or investigation into specific technology or solution issues and to shepherd research and piloting of new capabilities with project engineers and/or partner organization as required.
  • Analyzes, defines, and documents requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, hardware and operating system environment, and network connectivity, other system interfaces, internal and external checks and controls, and outputs.
  • Provides complete assessments of the technical characteristics of proposals and alternatives considered.
  • Monitor industry trends and directions; develops and presents substantive technical recommendation to senior management.
  • Review and assess impact of proposed scope changes to future architecture.
  • Provide creative and innovative architectural solutions to ill-defined requirements.
  • Support the development and maintenance of data models, data dictionaries, data maps and other architecture artifacts across the enterprise.
  • Work with senior business and technical personnel to deliver a robust scalable architecture that meets the business goals of the enterprise.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, the ability to work effectively as a member of an integrated team and the ability to negotiate reasonable compromises among a diverse group of stakeholders with diverse opinions or diverging strategies
  • Knowledge of Federal Government and Commercial Industry best practices to include emerging cyber security capabilities and their application
  • Demonstrated familiarity with Agency Enterprise IT systems to include the Intelligence Community Integrated Technology Environment (IC-ITE)
  • Demonstrated record of good judgment and problem solving skills necessary to make reasonable security
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, with the ability to clearly express technical and complex strategy concepts to peers and seniors
  • Team and mission-oriented self-starter requiring minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, technically challenging area; ability to anticipate and manage changes or problems; assess impacts and make sound recommendations
  • Strong desire to utilize new technology to meet mission needs, quickly research new technology, and derive larger themes from disruptive technology
  • Certified Information Security Systems Professional (CISSP) certification

  • BA/BS (or equivalent experience), 20+ years of experience
  • Certified Information Security Systems Professional (CISSP) certification
