The EPA High-End Scientific Computing (HESC) program requires a versatile programmer, ideally with a background in science or engineering, to provide technical consulting and code development services for the HESC Environmental Modeling and Visualization Laboratory (EMVL). The candidate will work with a team of GDIT scientists and code developers to consult on a variety of projects with EPA scientists.
Advanced degree in computer science or related discipline plus 0-2 years’ experience OR Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline with >4 years’ experience
Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a keen interest in learning new skills
Proficiency in R and one or more object-oriented languages like Python, Java, Perl
Some experience with compiled languages (e.g., C / C++ / Fortran)
Ability to work with legacy codes, “sleuthing” existing codes, and improving poorly written code
Experience in developing code for a Linux environment, particularly for HPC systems
Ability to work independently as well as with multidisciplinary teams of scientists and programmers
Experience with unit/regression/integration testing and a test-driven software development
Some experience in developing code in IDEs (e.g. Eclipse, Visual Studio) that support multiple languages
Familiarity with mobile and web-development frameworks like React and Angular
Familiarity with techniques used in parallelization and optimization of code
Active Public Trust security clearance
