GDIT is looking for Research Scientist Associate with one year experience in the Dayton, Ohio area.


The candidate will support several ongoing programs of study at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) where researchers investigate human trust and human-machine teaming. The candidate is expected to have the basic ability to review scientific literature, design experiments, collect and analyze data, and document scientific findings. The candidate will support human-subjects research studies – both online and in-person protocols – by assisting with recruiting subjects, interacting with subjects, and running study sessions for protocols investigating relevant topics in human factors psychology. Familiarity with one or both of the following software languages is expected: SPSS, R.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology – Experimental, Industrial Organizational or similar

  • Note: No previous experience required, however, professional experience is desired.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to develop and follow research methodology and protocol.

  • Knowledge of scientific approach and methodologies.

  • Knowledge of scientific research principles, practices, and protocols.

  • Ability to design, organize, and coordinate scientific research projects.

  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform statistical analyses (e.g., correlation, multiple regression, two-way analysis of variance, mixed effects modeling) on human-subjects data.

  • Test experiment protocols, including piloting software and analyzing pilot data.

  • Recruit subjects, interact with subjects, and run study sessions, both in-person and online.

  • Collect, prepare, and analyze data collected in experiments.

  • Launch, monitor, and aggregate human-subjects data leveraging online platforms (e.g., Amazon Mechanical Turk, CloudResearch, Qualtrics).

  • Participate in theoretical and research discussions of psychological constructs (e.g., trust) and contexts of interest (e.g., human-autonomy teaming).

  • Strong writing skills to be leveraged in day-to-day communications (e.g., email) as well as scientific writing for reports and manuscripts for submission for publication in peer-reviewed outlets.


  • Years of Experience: 0-1 Years

  • Required Education: Completed a bachelor’s degree in psychology or related discipline (e.g., cognitive science).

  • Some background Biology or Physiology is desired.

  • R programming experience or sound foundation in programming is desired.

  • Must be motivated, detail-oriented, and possess strong organizational and communication skills.

  • DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: BS/BA, 0+ years of experience; MS/MA is a plus
