At GDIT, people are our differentiator. As an Expert Engineer designs, develops, tests and evaluates electrical, mechanical, and/or computer components, equipment and systems. Provides innovative methods and technical solutions using the engineering design process.

The Expert Engineer will be responsible for the workflow involved in maintaining our customers engineering and operational services.  You will be responsible for designing and implementing advanced technology solutions and resolving highly complex production and support issues and directly participate in analysis and documentation of improvement opportunities by recommending and driving best of breed technology approaches with proper standards and best practices. This role will interface directly with the customers at times as well as internal stakeholders.

  • Work across teams, and external customer groups to develop strategy, design solutions, and advise implementation teams during deployment.
  • Trouble shoot and resolve complex engineering and operational outages
  • Build and maintain technical relationships with managers of the organization and technology providers by leading and facilitating engineering as well as operational services discussions and aligning solutions with client needs.
  • Provide communication, ensuring that managers, team members, stakeholders within the organization, and clients are kept informed of relevant trends and projects.
  • Research new or alternative technologies, document findings, conduct pilots and evaluate multiple vendors and make recommendations.
  • Deal with escalations. Make assessments, recommendations or provide solutions to resolve issues.
  • Mentor our junior level staff and ensuring they are up to speed on critical processes and technologies.
  • Write functional requirements/specifications documents.
  • Guide the selection, implementation and deployment processes for new technology rollouts.
  • Participates in special projects as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:  

Required skills and experience:

  • PhD (or equivalent experience), 15+ years of experience. (Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related area is preferred)
  • Expert level in Ground system / Engineering / Operational Technologies (deployment, maintenance, trouble shooting/problem resolution)
  • Desired Root cause analysis experience
  • Certifications must be current and active
  • Team Lead / Program Management experience

Because of the sensitive nature of the work being done for this government client, all candidates must hold a TS/SCI and Polygraph.

Desired skills and experience:

  • Advanced degree
  • Cloud certifications are a plus
  • An active ITIL certification
  • SDWAN – Silver Peak, VeloCloud and Viptela
  • SDDC – ACI, VMware NSX

The likely salary range for this position is $152,000 - $228,000, this is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary; rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
