Job Description

Seize your opportunity to make a personal impact as a Senior Biostatistician. GDIT is seeking to fill a Senior Biostatistician position for the staff and customers of the WRAIR in support of the Medical Standards Analytics and Research (MSAR) and Statistics and Epidemiology Branch Research Programs. The position is located at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) in Silver Springs, MD.

HOW A SENIOR BIOSTATISTICIAN WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

  • Responsible for developing statistical/mathematical models in the evaluation of epidemiological data.
  • Manages categorical data, as well as clustered data and develops models using longitudinal methods, multivariate analyses, repeated measures, and other advanced multivariate statistical analyses.
  • Trains and mentors’ junior staff in epidemiologic study design, analysis, advanced SAS programming utilizing macros, arrays and other automatic approaches, results interpretation and development of high-quality error-free knowledge products.
  • Applies sound epidemiologic expertise to interpret results and leads the development of various knowledge products, including technical and departmental analytical reports, interactive dashboards, sophisticated graphs, tables, white papers, manuscripts, briefings and oral/visual presentations to professional groups.
  • Collaborates with departmental researchers to determine study protocols and analysis plans, has skills to develop and deliver departmental analytical reports and oral/visual presentations to professional groups and will travel to meetings and conferences when necessary.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Master’s degree in Statistics.
  • Eight (8) years of postgraduate experience independently performing and leading statistical analysis of military epidemiologic studies using SAS programming.
  • Expert in conceptualizing, planning, conducting and validating epidemiologic studies and statistical models in the evaluation of epidemiological data.
  • Expert in statistical software packages to include SAS and a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with military preventive medicine issues, military populations, military structure, datasets.
  • Familiar with clinical decision software to explore the effects of discounting, variations in clinical assumptions, and other aspects of sensitivity analysis in cost and cost effectiveness analyses.
  • Training or experience in developing predictive models for success/failure in large populations using risk factors of various strength and positive predictive value very useful.
  • Possesses theoretical expert level (recognized authority – based on NIH proficiency scale) proficiency and at least 8 years of experience in generalized linear models, survival analyses, proportional hazards, and other types of multivariate statistical models.  
  • Extensive experience with military populations, structure, medical readiness policies, preventive medicine issues and analysis of military datasets to include accession medical disqualifications and waivers, personnel, healthcare, and disability data using SAS.
  • Good writing skills, preferably demonstrated by one or more published articles as author or co-author.
  • Additional training in economic analytical modeling in a medical environment is highly desirable.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Ability to secure a Public Trust Clearance - Automated Data Processing Level II (ADP-II)/National Agency Check with Law and Credit (NACLC).
