At GDIT, people are our differentiator. As a Systems Engineer supporting the customer, you will be trusted to execute multi-faced programs that support dynamic mission sets. In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Creating and maintaining optimal data pipeline architecture
  • Developing systems to monitor the health of existing data pipelines, and developing solutions to data pipeline issues
  • Identifying, designing, and implementing internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
  • Building the infrastructure for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a large variety of data sources using SQL and ‘big data’ technologies
  • Working with stakeholders who have data-related technical issues to support their infrastructure needs
  • Recommending and implementing ways to improve data reliability, efficiency, and quality
  • Working with data and analytics experts to strive for improved functionality across our data systems

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years related experience in a Systems Engineer role or relevant combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with AWS cloud services
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases
  • Experience building and optimizing ‘big data’ pipelines
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets
  • Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency, and workload management
  • Experience manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large disconnected datasets
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools
  • Experience with Python
  • Security Clearance Level: Top Secret/SCI with Polygraph

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with Apache NiFi
  • Experience with geospatial data
  • Familiarity with Intelligence Community data
  • Demonstrated on-the-job experience using software development project management software, ideally JIRA

Prepares and maintains all documentation for processes and procedures related to engineering projects.

Provides guidance to less-experienced Systems Engineers.

Maintains current knowledge of rapidly changing technology, always on the lookout for new technologies, and works with management to evolve current processes.

May coach and review the work of less-experienced professionals.

May serve as a team or task leader. (Not a people manager)

Performs complex systems development and design work that may include logic design, I/O design, model formulation, computer architecture analysis and design, and digital systems engineering.

Invents innovative ways to drive production operational efficiency.

Drives scalability and operability of supported systems/infrastructure.

Implements, manages and enhances Continuous Integration and Delivery (CI/CD) pipeline tools.

Creates, maintains, and reviews Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Desired State Configuration (DSC) and/or Puppet configuration management tools to support the provisioning infrastructure.

Provides system/equipment/specialized training and technical guidance.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: BA/BS (or equivalent experience), 10+ years of experience
