GDIT is seeking a Trauma Physiology and Immunologist Senior Scientist in support of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) Bacterial Diseases Branch, in the Wound Infections Department (WID). The mission of this department is to defeat combat related wound infections and research efforts are focused delivering novel solutions as prophylactics and/or treatments for combating Multidrug-resistant (MDR) infections.Duties include, but not limited to:
  • Principal investigator with scientific and technical skills for the research and development of novel medical countermeasures against wound infections.
  • Design and perform research on trauma physiology and microbial pathogens of military relevance simulating combat wound injury to include immunopathogenesis and animal testing.
  • Develop and recommend research protocols and experimental techniques on trauma-related infections.
  • Draft grant proposals on trauma-related infections
  • Conduct research on projects associated with trauma-related infections by one or more of the ESKAPEE pathogens (Enterococcus species, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter cloacae, and Escherichia coli).
  • Plan, coordinate and perform microbiological studies on trauma physiology and immunology, to include animal modeling, under biosafety level 2.
  • Submit reports and data summaries as requested and prepare research results for presentation and publication in the scientific literature.
  • Comply with occupational health and safety standards and other applicable regulations and guidelines which may include medical surveillance.
  • Attend and participate in seminars, scientific conferences, and meetings.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • MD or Ph.D. in Microbiology, Immunology, Physiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or other related scientific field.
  • Must have experience in traumatology and immunopathogenesis
