HOW A Systems Engineer – Senior MAKES AN IMPACT

At GDIT, Systems Engineers provide technical leadership and oversight of system design and integration to bring together technologies and solutions.  The Army’s Secure Internet Protocol Modernization program effort is in direct support of the Department of the Army, Program Executive Office Enterprise Information Systems, PM Global Enterprise Network Modernization Americas implements the Army’s Global Secret Internet Protocol Router (SIPR) Network Program (A-GSN).  GDIT will modernize those networks to bring together commercial and government solutions to modernize and secure the backbone of the Army’s classified network.

The SIPRNet is a classified network, used for Command and Control (C2), that is part of the larger Department of Defense Information Network (DoDIN) and extends into the Army’s portion of the DoDIN (referred to as the DoDIN-A). The Global SIPR Network will be a network of, at a minimum, 6 globally dispersed nodes that enable SIPR connectivity in all theaters.  This program has an objective requirement to scale to 150,000 SIPR virtual desktop infrastructure users, enable the mission partner environment through Multiple Independent Levels of Security, and provide connectivity to multiple types of users through multi-site or End User Device connectivity. The program globally will provide improved SIPR Multi-site, mobility access, wireless, and data- at-rest capabilities using Nation Security Agency (NSA) approved Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC) Network.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Analyze, Design, Implement, and test high availability classified enterprise infrastructure to seamlessly integrate classified cloud and edge services
  • Integrate multiple enterprise scaled CSfC capability packages, security suites, and virtual infrastructure, to include VDI
  • Support RMF package development and maintenance activities.  Ensure design and implementation compliance
  • Create and drive a comprehensive and fully automated IaC environment that supports continuous compliance.  Enforce strict configuration controls
  • Lead preliminary and critical design reviews, test readiness reviews, and implementation reviews.  Develop customer required documentation in CDRL format
  • Represent the GDIT team on enterprise level boards.  Work closely with program manager and lead architect, supervise assigned technical staff
  • Assure quality of program products, services, and deliverables, including participating in reviews, audits, and site visits
  • Support business development activities at all stages, including the preparation and review of technical and cost proposals.
  • Develop, review, and approve technical plans, schedules, and other program documents.
  • Prepare and provide various reports and technical reviews to senior management as requested.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant corporate and government policies and standards.
  • Participate in special projects as required.

SCOPE: Design, implementation, and test leader for a large team of multiple disciplines including Telecommunications Enterprise IT (ITSM) and Cybersecurity Services. Schedule execution of implementation activities with high complexity. Be responsible for program(s) with annual revenues of $250-500 million.


  • Education:  Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institute in Computer Science or Information Systems, or relative experience. 
  • Required Experience: 5+ years of progressively responsible systems engineering, infrastructure engineering, and IT networks implementation leadership.  Ability to work at a high technical level on all phases of systems engineering.
  • Required Technical Skills: One or more of the following certifications (or equivalent): CCNP; VCP; MCSE
  • Security Clearance Level:  DoD SECRET Clearance Required; TS preferable

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Expert level knowledge of enterprise IT systems to include enterprise integration, virtualization, and automation; VDI; identity and authorization; system design, deployment, and test; networking, cyber controls and stacks, classified security domains, understanding of MILS and MLS; understanding of CSfC capability packages
  • Experience in troubleshooting IP data networks using devices such as NetScout and/or WireShark
  • Experience with WAN acceleration technologies
  • Cloud and cloud edge integration
  • DoD IAT Level II, with ability to achieve DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level III
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills applied to the development and presentation of technical materials appropriate to a broad spectrum of audiences.
  • Understanding of Army policies, organization, and processes.  Integration and alignment of Army policies, organizational constructs, and processes
  • Preferred Skills:
    • Ten (10) years of experience managing facility modernization work or systems projects of similar scope and complexity which may be inclusive of five (5) years’ experience on DoD Networks
    • MS in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or other related disciplines
    • Microsoft MCSE and VMware VCIX certifications or equivalent
    • Understanding of Army Networks construction, Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC) commercial products
    • MSCA, Splunk, Azure Virtual Desktop

Location:  Hybrid, frequent travel within the Northern Virginia area and at implementation site required
