At GDIT, people are our differentiator. This position is a Linux sys admin/engineer role. The work entails Linux system administration, installing, configuring and maintaining web services, supporting our development team, monitoring systems and applications, performing backups, utilizing AWS and database experience, scripting, networking and storage support.

Linux Engineer/SysAdmin with hands-on experience in the following areas:

  • Understand and know how to configure the entire Linux server
  • Configure Linux baseline OS
  • Configure the OS firewall and IP tables
  • Configure Linux file systems, NFS, Fiber channel network storage, direct attach storage
  • Configure LVM, Syslog, audit log and monitoring system aide
  • Patch and rescues the Linux system
  • Linux troubleshooting
  • Using virus scan McAfee software
  • Linux to Windows file sharing using Samba
  • Performing backups using Bacula
  • Programming languages using Perl, Bash and Python
  • Operating systems software using Centos and Scientific Linux version 6 and 7
  • CISCO 2960/3750 switches
  • ASA 5500 Firewalls
  • Windows 7 administration, Windows Server 2003 and 2012
  • Hyper V Virtualization Software for managing virtual environments
  • Dev/Ops tools to include SonarCube, Maven, Jenkins, Puppet
  • Hardware experience using HP G5-G9
  • Load Balancer software using Piranha and HP Proxy
  • Infrastructure support to include physical (storage, networking, operation systems and layouts), VMWare vSphere and Enterprise Cloud.
  • Knowledge to build and configure VM or Physical server from a kick start file, ISO, AWS and AMI
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years related experience.
  • Technical Skills: Experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting UNIX /Linux based environments.
  • Experience in the administration and performance tuning of application stacks (e.g.,Tomcat, JBoss, Apache, Ruby, NGINX).
  • ELK & Elasticsearch
  • Configure and manage the ELK - Logstash, Kibana, filebeat
  • Configure and manage Elasticsearch Cluster
  • Manage Elasticsearch Cluster indexes and Shards
  • Cloud experience, preferably in AWS.
  • Experience with virtualization and containerization (e.g., VMware, Virtual Box).
  • Experience with monitoring systems. Experience with automation software (e.g., Puppet, cfengine, Chef).
  • Scripting skills (e.g., shell scripts, Perl, Ruby, Python). Networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP).
  • Participating in daily scrum meetings.
  • Develops block diagrams and logic flow charts. Translate detailed design into computer software.
  • Tests, debugs, and refines the computer software to produce the required product.
  • Prepare required documentation, including both program-level and user-level documentation.
  • Enhance software to reduce operating time or improve efficiency.

  • Provides and applies advanced engineering to highly complex infrastructures including installing, configuring, testing and maintaining operating systems, application software, and system management tools.
  • Provides and applies advanced engineering skills to highly complex systems modeling, simulation, and analysis.
  • Performs continual maintenance and provides advanced solutions for continual and highly complex security, backup and redundancy problems.
  • Prepares and maintains all documentation for processes and procedures related to engineering projects.
  • Provides guidance to less-experienced Systems Engineers.
  • Maintains current knowledge of rapidly changing technology, always on the lookout for new technologies, and works with management to evolve current processes.
  • May coach and review the work of less-experienced professionals.
  • May serve as a team or task leader. (Not a people manager)
  • Performs complex systems development and design work that may include logic design, I/O design, model formulation, computer architecture analysis and design, and digital systems engineering.
  • Invents innovative ways to drive production operational efficiency.
  • Drives scalability and operability of supported systems/infrastructure.
  • Implements, manages and enhances Continuous Integration and Delivery (CI/CD) pipeline tools.
  • Creates, maintains, and reviews Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Desired State Configuration (DSC) and/or Puppet configuration management tools to support the provisioning infrastructure.
  • Provides system/equipment/specialized training and technical guidance.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: BA/BS (or equivalent experience), 10+ years of experience
