Our work depends on a Lead System Administrator joining our team to support USAMRDC activities at Fort Detrick in Frederick, MD with potential travel to other MRDC locations.

At GDIT, we foster a people-centric environment. As a Lead System Administrator you will be trusted to lead a team of System Administrators and System Engineers in the management, monitoring and optimization of USAMRDC hardware, software, network and storage solutions across Windows and LINUX server environments, Active Directory, COTS products and SAN solutions from IBM Tivoli, VEEAM, and HPE 3PAR StoreServ, and security products including HBSS/HIPS. In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Collaborate with USAMRDC IM/IT leadership and the Defense Health Agency (DHA) Global Service Center (GSC) to optimize system confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
  • Establish state-of-the-art techniques for designing, developing, documenting, modifying, and troubleshooting highly complex hardware and operating software systems and architectures.
  • Support the design, documentation, configuration, implementation, maintenance, and security posture of all hardware, operating systems, storage networks, virtual environments, and application software in accordance with applicable DoD instructions and policies.
  • Provide leadership and cross team support for the maintenance of an overarching architectural plan for the data center.
  • Support the optimization and rationalization of physical and virtual environments (VMWare, Cloud) including plans for system migration/virtualization where appropriate.
  • Perform capacity management through modeling and simulation techniques using system benchmarks, performance measurements and evaluation data, and ensure that optimal resource (CPU, memory, storage) utilization.
  • Lead a team of system administrators and engineers in the management, patching, upgrade and sustainment of all infrastructure.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • Clearance: Active DoD Secret clearance
  • Possess active 8570.01-M baseline certification(s) Security+ CE, CND or equivalent
  • Deep technical experience with the following software, products, and concepts;
    • Windows Server 2012+, LINUX, MS SCCM, Active Directory, DNS
    • Virtualization: VMWare Suite, Cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP)
    • SAN solutions (IBM Tivoli, HPE 3PAR StoreServ, VEEAM desired)
    • Security: DoD STIG, IAVA, RMF, ATO, HBSS/HIPS
    • Capacity Management, Infrastructure Optimization, Site Reliability Engineering
