GDIT Technology Shared Services (TSS) is seeking a Usability/Accessibility Testing Professional with specialization on Accessibility conformance and/or compliance. Accessibility expert with knowledge of Section 508, W3C, WCAG, and/or other accessibility related regulations (e.g., Sec 504 for students with disabilities). Ability to design, evaluate/assess, and assist in development of software with accessible and usable interfaces. Provide guidance and knowledge on Usability for programs with Accessibility requirements.
The Sec 508 Usability Specialist will be responsible for the identification and interpretation of the best methods to champion UX improvements in order to keep accessibility at the forefront. The Specialist is responsible for all aspects of testing and evaluation for both generative (participatory design) and evaluative (Usability Testing) research and/or development.
Technical and Core Competencies include:
Guidance in establishing policies, processes and programs to enable Section 508 Compliance
Analyze results of 508 compliance testing and collaborate with team members to identify alternative approaches, instructional practices, or methodologies to meet project objectives while supporting 508 compliance
Provide oversight and governance to ensure compliance with 508 standards
Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to explain design and development decisions and recommendations to SMEs, team members, and clients
Testing experience on software application with 508 compliance requirements using tools such as Job Access with Speech (JAWS), ANDI, SortSite, Color and Contrast Checker, Microsoft Inspect, Microsoft AccEvent, or Oracle Java Access Inspector
Maintain broad awareness of compliance requirements, processes and objectives through executive briefings, training programs and internal communication tools
Provides application/software testing services
Develops test plans and documents results
Development and testing of accessible documents, e.g., MS Word, PDFs, MS PowerPoint
Tests, debugs, documents, implements and maintains software applications
Conduct internal and external website and Application Testing/Remediation.
Collaborate closely with other Federal agencies to identify and understand specific compliance challenges and needs
Maintain close awareness of Section 508 and WCAG guidance and direction coming from GSA, Usability.gov and other federal organizations
Collaborate and coordinate with Section 508 Coordinators at other agencies
Knowledge and experience in establishing policies, processes and programs to enable Section 508 Compliance across the IC.
Provides compliance guidance to support technology planning, design, development, testing and implementation activities.
Interpret and provide guidance on Section 508 and related accessibility laws, regulations and standards.
Education and Background requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Curriculum Design and Development, or other areas applicable to the position’s description and needs
Minimum of five (5) years professional experience in developing eLearning content at novice through expert levels using interactive instructional multimedia
Experience with integration during course design and development and testing of compliance with Section 508 requirements for SW applications
Knowledge of instructional design practices and the study of the principles and techniques used in designing training programs, developing design strategy and models, and applying design methods to the improvement of instructional effectiveness
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with subject matter experts to conduct research, resolve issues, and develop recommendations.
DHS Trusted Tester certification is preferred
JAWS certification is referred.
The likely salary range for this position is $72,000 - $108,000, this is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary; rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
