GDIT is helping the Department of Education run federal student financial aid systems that allow over 13 Million students to achieve their higher education goals each year. This manager will play a key role in the success of programs that are creating new solutions and migrating legacy systems to the cloud.


  • Lead technical operations team that operates and maintains a range of program applications hosted at customer data center and in AWS cloud
  • Oversee team that troubleshoots and resolves production incidents/issues involving all program products leveraging shared resources and external support teams
  • Lead technical projects using standard project management practices
  • Direct technical operations resources in support of Federal Student Aid programs
  • Coordinate AWS Cloud operational activities
  • Support program spanning the Federal Student Aid datacenter /GDIT network/environment
  • Coordinate scheduling of non-production environment deployments
  • Assess Change Requests for impacts to the program environment and provide estimate of effort to support those changes
  • Provide timely and clear communication to internal and external stakeholders – includes support of weekly status report and high level monthly report
  • Plan production operational support services with use of shared technical resources
  • Coordinate testing support for NGDC operations and maintenance activities for both non-production and production – frequently to include Sunday deployment activities
  • Utilize FSA’s Rational ticketing system for Integrated Technical Architecture (ITA) and NGDC support 
  • Assist in creating firewall requests both at the NGDC and GDIT allowing GDIT to access resources at the NGDC
  • Create and maintain a technical operations schedule
  • Work independently, with minimal guidance and supervision.
  • Support professional growth and achievement of operations resources
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.
  • Participate in group improvement activities and initiatives to improve quality and efficiencies.
  • Organize project activities to maximize team efficiency
  • Pinpoints strengths and weaknesses of various alternatives and selects or recommends appropriate decisions/solutions.


  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, software engineering, or related field

Required Experience

  • 7+ years of management experience in a technical operations role overseeing with a diverse portfolio of applications
  • Knowledge of FSA’s Data Center environment and tools
  • Experience with ITIL in support of an operational environments preferred

Desired Experience

  • Knowledge of the Next Generation Data Center (NGDC) infrastructure specifically middleware that supports the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), Central Processing Systems (CPS) Business Services, and CPS Services applications)
  • Experience with change management tools

ITIL foundation certification
