General Dynamics Information Technology is seeking a Technical Writer to provide assistance in the preparation, review, revision and maintenance of technical documents to support the mission of the Administrative Office Technology Office (AOTO) of the United States Courts.  This individual must be a forward thinker who can proactively plan and multitask and who possesses excellent organizational and communication skills.  The position is in support of GDIT’s contract with the Administrative Office of United States Courts – Administrative Office Technology Office (AOUSC-AOTO) in Washington DC.


The successful candidate must have experience developing and editing technical documentation in large or government organizations.  The position works closely with project managers and technical staff to develop communication templates, standard operating procedures and optimize work instructions, among other tasks. The successful candidate will be able explain complex technical information in a clear and concise manner.  The candidate must have strong analytical skills and demonstrate attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.  The position is part of the AOTO Communication Team whichs reports to the Engineering Systems Manager.  Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Participate in project chartering and planning activities from a technical documentation support perspective.
  • Support requirements development for new infrastructure projects.
  • Write technical resource kits for AOTO-sponsored IT infrastructure service offerings targeted to other IT administrators in US Court units.
  • Write product support documentation including design documents, build plans, COOP plans, SOPs/Work Instructions, etc.
  • Create a Concept of Operations that describes the general characteristics of proposed solutions from the user perspective and the operational environment.
  • Write announcements, memos, web content, etc. to users describing changes in service offerings.
  • Work with agency web content providers/approvers and SharePoint system administrators to manage web content presentation and improvement projects.
  • Take initiative and ownership of entire lifecycle of documentation needs; collaborate with engineers, managers, customers and end users in a team environment to develop documentation solutions.


  • Eleven (11) years of progressive Information Technology (IT) experience including at least 3 years of experience working across the Windows enterprise platforms from concept to implementation – such as Windows 2012 Servers, Windows 7 desktops, Active Directory, SQL Servers, etc.
  • High proficiency in the Microsoft Office tools – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio.
  • Experience collaborating with multiple technical stakeholders in a team setting
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to facilitate meetings with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Ability to manage, prioritize, and coordinate multiple tasks
  • Exceptional communication skills with an emphasis on interpretation and documentation
  • Ability to write, document, and maintain Policies, Processes, and Procedures as related to account responsibilities


  • Master’s degree from an accredited higher education institution and a minimum of 11 years of progressive IT experience or equivalent experience.
