GDIT – Federal Civilian Division is looking for a detail oriented, personable, multi-tasking Senior Technical Writer/Editor to join our team to support a Department of the Army Public Affairs Office. 

This position allows a hybrid remote working schedule (working onsite only 2 days per week) and is based out of Ft. Detrick (Frederick, MD).

In this role you will:

  • Provide writing and editing support
  • Perform background research and conducts interviews with scientific experts to draft and publish articles and press releases related to USAMMDA accomplishments
  • Work directly with Commander to ghost-write Commanders Blog on a scheduled basis
  • Manage Customer Awards database and assists staff in drafting award nomination packages
  • Attend various events, meetings, and conferences to serve as PAO representative, and publish informative articles covering the event or provide account summaries and/or meeting minutes to PAO management
  • Ensure that published articles are forwarded to various publications and websites for the DoD including The Standard newspaper, the Customer’s website, the Army.mil website, and other relevant websites
  • Plan and design content for the Command’s website
  • Provide back-up support to provide videographer/photographer support for various events and functions, and for published articles
  • Assist with editing articles from various authors in advance of posting to website(s) and submitting to outside media outlets, reviewing for content and accuracy
  • Ensure all products comply with local, state, and federal public affairs policies, procedures and initiatives
  • Provide back-up media support at Trade Shows and Conferences
  • Assist in serving as an educational resource to media inquiries and connecting them with subject matter experts
  • Form partnerships and maintain strong relationships with U.S. Army organizations
  • Participate in special projects as required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, English, Public Relations, or a related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, professional training, or work experience
  • 5+ years of related technical writing and editing experience
  • Have experience with Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook
  • Ability to successfully communicate with personnel at various echelons using effective interpersonal and communication skills in addition to managing numerous efforts and effectively prioritizing and multi-tasking requirements
  • Willing to Travel (10-15%)
  • Must be U.S. citizen and be able to obtain a NACI (T1) public trust
