General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), is seeking a Tier 2 System Administrator to support the Veteran’s Administration (VA) Atlanta Technology Center (ATC) Information Technology Services in Atlanta, GA.  The ATC provides technology services to several agencies within VA. The ATC is also the physical host of the former Region 6 National Data Center.  In this position, you will directly support users over the phone with troubleshooting the applications and servers. This position allows the opportunity to telework full time while still being local to the VA ATC in Atlanta, GA located at 2957 Clairmont Road, in order to go onsite periodically to perform work.

• Perform systems administration of desktop and server systems connected to local and wide area networks.
• Provide support for implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance support for current and emerging technology IT systems
• Provide support to IT systems including day-to-day operations, monitoring and problem resolution for all of the client/server/network devices, etc.
• Provide Tier 2 problem identification, diagnosis and resolution of problem
• Provide support for the escalation and communication of status to agency management and internal customers
• Proactively, reactively and remotely monitor all enterprise wide servers, applications, systems and databases
• Take corrective action by remotely identifying and escalating issues through monitoring, to ensure the operability of all servers and all systems
• Manage Windows operating systems, VMware, and SQL Servers
• Isolate and resolve hardware and software problems involving the applications, the operating system, the hardware, the communications infrastructure, or any combination thereof or escalate to next level solver group.
• Troubleshoot, maintain integrity and configure network components along with implementing operating systems enhancements to improve reliability and performance
• Provide support to crisis events 
• Maintain current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned
• Participate in special projects as required.


Required Skills and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree or 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education.
• 2+ years’ experience performing systems administration and support of network systems 
• Experience managing user accounts on systems
• Experience installing, configuring and maintaining SQL Server hardware and software
• Experience monitoring and managing systems’ performance and making adjustments to computer memory, Central Processing Unit (CPU), storage technologies and network connectivity as needed.

• Knowledge and experience using various network tools to troubleshoot and pinpoint network problems and outages  
• Knowledge and experience installing and configuring system hardware
• Knowledge and experience applying operating system updates, patches and configuration changes

Desired Qualifications
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the capability to make decisions and adapt to change.
• Familiarity with Oracle and Linux environments
• Experience working in an incident management environment and with an incident management team
• Ability to clearly document existing and new processes and procedures
• Windows Server 2012 certification
• CCNA certification (2013)
