At GDIT, people are our differentiator.  Currently, we are seeking an innovative Systems Administrator Advisor joining our team to support our government client’s activities in the Northern Virginia locations.  The successful candidate provides system administration support to assigned projects.

Responsibilities:

As a Systems Administrator Advisor maintains an organizations computer systems workflows and is responsible for the upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, including fixing network issues along with updating equipment and software. Creates and administers profiles and accounts and maintains systems documentation. 

  • Tunes system performance for optimal conditions. Installs system-wide software.
  • Develops technical solutions for the management of networks, software, hardware, configurations, and architectures. Provides interpretation to systems matters that are moderately complex in nature.
  • Provides troubleshooting support for system hardware and software issues that are highly complex in scope.
  • Trains end users on the proper use of hardware and software. May train large groups of end users.
  • Performs advance software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages.
  • Applies advanced knowledge in monitoring and tuning the system to achieve optimum performance levels.
  • Provides guidance to less experienced personnel on workstation/server data integrity by implementing standard software and hardware solutions.
  • Leads data/media recoverability by following a schedule of system backups and database archive operations.
  • Conducts advanced to complex hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
  • Ensures that performance and security of computers meet the needs of network users. Uses extensive independent judgement and is unsupervised.
  • Recognized subject matter expert in job area typically through advanced education and work experience. Manages large projects with limited oversight from manager.
  • Evaluates and assesses existing systems and plans long-term strategies
  • Installation and response efforts for the position requires lifting equipment that weighs 20-30 pounds, walking and standing, pushing, and pulling; working around, under, and over desks, as well as professional personal interactions with customers.
  • May coach and review the work of less-experienced professionals.
  • May serve as a team or task leader. (Not a people manager)
  • Participates in special projects as required.

Requirements:

  • BA/BS (or equivalent experience)
  • 8+ years of experience
  • Must hold a TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance.
  • Must possess appropriate and current DoD Information Assurance (IA) Certification to be considered for employment; either CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+ CE, Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP), OR CCNA-Security. CompTIA Security+ CE is the preferred certification. 
  • As part of your role/function on the program, you will be granted privileged user access. Privileged Users are subject to greater scrutiny as a direct result of the significant responsibilities placed upon them. Please be aware that because of these critical duties, you will be subject to additional IT system monitoring, and supervisory evaluation to ensure continuous adherence to Privileged User processes and procedures. Privileged Users are subject to a zero-tolerance policy for security violations.
