HOW A SOFTWARE TEST ENGINEER (NTO) WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

Job Summary:

This position will align with the DevOps team, specializing in test support and primarily providing test support. The Software Test Engineer (NTO) Designs, develops, evaluates, plans and tests engineering specifications for software programs and applications. Performs basic troubleshooting for test support. Supports and collaborates between other internal and external organizations for test events. Identifies and implements process improvement enhancements. Supplements the DevOps team during downtime between test events.

Job Duties:

  • Dedicated onsite test support for a software application within the NGA Testing Organization (NTO)
  • Participate in Agile software development initiatives (standup, planning, Increment planning) to support innovation and enhancement of applications through iteration/functionality testing
  • Participate and collaborate with team members to assess StoryPoint / complexity efforts (using best practices) to ensure proper testing and delivery of functionality per User Story Acceptance Criteria
  • Collaborate with team members (Scrum Master, Product Owner, Software Developers) to develop test approaches with emphasis on automation of recurring/regression test cases through selected toolsets, Develop and document end-to-end functionality test case narratives using task management system (JIRA/Confluence)
  • Provide early exploratory testing during the development phase
  • Collaborate with internal and external organizations (upstream or downstream dependencies) during testing events
  • Take ownership and lead the team's test events, support test events for dependent applications.
  • Participate in daily status calls
  • Design, code and deploy automated test scripts
  • Basic troubleshooting and escalation for failures within the test environment
  • Manage defects in ServiceNow and coordinate information with development teams; seeing the fix actions through to completion
  • Maintain test documentation, provide support to government test organization, conduct load and performance testing, evaluate test results, and provide feedback in a Continuous Integration Continuous Delivery Pipeline.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

Skills/Qualifications:

Required:

  • 5+ years of experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, computer engineering, systems engineering or any related field/major, or 3 additional years of experience in information technology.
  • Demonstrated experience working in an Agile development framework.
  • Demonstrated experience with creation, authoring, execution and documentation of test cases/result sets for software products in an agile cadence.
  • Knowledge and use of packages (e.g., BASH, CSS, DOS_BATCH, HTML, Java, JavaScript, PHP, PYTHON, SQL, XML, and Indexing/Search Technologies.
  • Ability to coordinate and lead collaborative efforts between multiple organizations
  • DoD IAT II 8570/8140 certified within 6 months of hire

Desired:

  • Technical certification Network +, Security +, Oracle or specializing in Software Development, or Cloud Computing.
  • Linux administration skills
  • Container experience (e.g. Docker, OpenShift)
