GDIT is looking for a Network Engineer to work on a team developing special telecommunications solutions for an exciting mission. Job duties include designing network-based solutions to complex data transport problems. The candidate will be expected to understand how network addressing, network routing, network protocols and network vulnerabilities affect system design. Additionally, the candidate must be able to create appropriate network configurations to match specific design requirements.

This position is a member of a team that is expanding its data transport line of business. Our customers have exciting missions in team-oriented environments where we are breaking new ground in solving the most difficult customer mission problems.

Detailed description includes:

Work directly with customer and other vendors assigned by the customer in a team environment on design of overall network architecture to meet customer requirements
Work independently to design specific network-based solutions involving routers, switches, firewalls and other network-facing appliances
Develop scripts and configurations for network appliances to protect against specific vulnerabilities and to automate specific network actions
Implement network solutions by configuring routers, switches, firewalls and other network appliances
Train and provide remote assistance to customer field deployment team members with end-point installation of configured network components


Required and Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

Required

BA/BS or equivalent, 8+ years of experience

TS/SCI with Polygraph

Experience designing and building custom bare metal and cloud-based networking solutions
Strong experience with and understanding of networking best practices
Experience troubleshooting network issues
Experience tuning and optimizing network performance
Hands-on experience configuring network appliances
Thorough understanding of network vulnerabilities and methodologies for mitigating them
Experience implementing network vulnerability mitigation techniques
Experience with or ability to learn how to implement Firepower Threat Defense-based solutions
 

Desired

Excellent communications skills to articulate complex technical issues orally and in writing
Demonstrated expertise with PowerPoint, Visio, and other documentation tools
An understanding of telecommunications systems and architectures
Hands-on experience building hardware and/or software systems
Hands-on experience implementing Firepower Threat Defense-based solutions
Experience with Windows and Linux environments
Experience implementing system security solutions under Linux operating systems
Experience with IPsec, commercial VPN, SolarWinds and Cisco ISE
Additional Information: Work hours are somewhat flexible
