GDIT is seeking a VMware vCloud Director Solution Architect to help support our milCloud 2.0 contract in Chantilly, VA. or Durham, NC. This position will require the employee to report full-time, onsite 5 days a week. Plus, occasional travel to other site locations will be required (OK, AL, NC, VA). If you are not local to the Chantilly, VA or Durham, NC work site, you MUST be willing to relocate at your own cost. Relocation assistance will not be provided.

The VMware vCloud Director expert will help to support the engineering, build, test, deployment and operationalization of a next-generation, DoD on-premise cloud service for DoD. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of engineering and sustaining a VMware vCloud Director solution for DoD. This individual will be a key member of the Solution Architecture team responsible for conceiving and delivering a wide variety of cloud services under a DoD program. Deep technical familiarity with VMware products, cloud services in general and using cloud services in support of DoD missions are important.
GDIT operates a DoD premise Cloud solution and is operating this Cloud in support of DoD IT missions. This approach ensures that: (1) DoD Mission Partners can easily directly migrate or support migration efforts for the broad array of complex military applications that would benefit from our Cloud offerings; and (2) Can evolve with the pace of technology and is not locked into a specific OEM provider.
Functional responsibilities include:
Responsible for development of a VMware vCloud Director based Infrastructure as a Services (IaaS) solution for DoD.
Prepares design documentation covering the compute, network and storage infrastructure on which the vCD solution will be built.
Collaborates with other members of the Solution Architecture team to complete integration with required core services, system security plan and existing infrastructure
Supports program security team to document the solution and through assessment to achieve FedRAMP High / DoD IL-5 / IL-6 level authorization
Participates in high-level enterprise architecture analysis, evaluation, design, integration, documentation, and development.
Applies high-level business and technical principles and methods to difficult technical problems to arrive at creative engineering solutions.
Recommends and takes action to direct the analysis and solutions of problems.
Expert knowledge of vSphere components such as vCSA, PSC, and ESXi.
Expert knowledge of technologies such as vMotion, HA, DRS/SDRS, VDS, Affinity rules, storage vMotion, vSphere Replication, iSCSI, NFS, and SAN.
Experience implementing and operating VMware NSX-V to support a multi-site vCloud Director environment.
A sound understanding of TCP/IP addressing and subnetting basics
Ability to automate tasks and procedures with scripting tools such as PowerCLI.
Knowledge and experience with DoD datacenters & infrastructure
10+ years industry experience
5+ years focused on: (1) Architecting, designing, engineering, integrating, deploying, and maintaining data center Infrastructure preferably within the DOD.; (2) Hardware to include compute, network, & storage; (3) Implementing DOD Security Controls; (4) VMware System Administration experience; (5) Developing documentation for architectures, designs, engineering, and operational support.
A self-starter that drives solutions to implementation
Ability to mentor junior and mid-level team members to more proficient in the tasks and activities associated with the management of an cloud provider VMware environment
Must be able to report onsite 1-2 days/wk plus travel to site locations as indicated above.
VMware Certified Professional or Advance Professional certification
5+ years of VMware ESXi experience; experience with ESX 6.x
3+ years of experience as a senior VMware solutions engineer providing guidance and direction for the engineering and sustainment of VMware infrastructure.
Ability to harden VMware environments according to DISA STIG
