Job Description

GDIT has an exciting opportunity to participate in the SAG-U as a member of our Enterprise Mission Information Technology Services (EMITS) program supporting U.S. Army Europe and Africa’s (USAREUR-AF) mission in Wiesbaden Germany.  The System Administrator will be primarily responsible for supporting a diverse IT environment, balancing expertise across Linux, virtual, and Windows platforms. This includes configuration management of the servers, hypervisor, virtual machines and end user systems. 

They will also participate in active directory organization unit (OU) administration as well as Tier 2/3 Helpdesk and Customer Support.  The Systems Administrator may also be responsible for maintaining an enterprise Microsoft Windows environment, including sustaining Active Directory, Exchange, Windows Certificate Authority, DNS, and other applications.


  • Administer a mixed environment of Windows and Linux servers and workstations, ensuring optimal performance and security.

  • Manage virtual infrastructure including VMware ESXi and vSphere, focusing on the deployment and maintenance of virtual machines.

  • Oversee Cisco Hyperflex data center operations, contributing to both physical and virtual network management.

  • Author authoritative documentation for SOPs, TTPs, and other critical operational guidelines.

  • Provide Tier 2/3 Helpdesk and Customer Support, resolving complex issues in Linux, virtual, and Windows environments.

  • Expert administration of Active Directory OUs, ensuring secure and efficient directory operations.

  • Collaborate with network and security teams to fortify infrastructure and respond proactively to network anomalies or security incidents.

  • Coordinate PMCS activities, streamlining preventative strategies in conjunction with service providers.

  • Spearhead software, hardware, and application configurations, managing modifications and support for configuration changes.

  • Conduct rigorous system backups and database archives to guarantee data recoverability and integrity.

  • Enforce compliance with DoD STIGs across servers, services, and applications, ensuring robust security postures.

  • Accommodate potential shift work, weekend, and holiday coverage as required by mission demands.


  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent military/government systems administration experience preferred.

  • Clearance Level Required: A DoD Top Secret security clearance.

  • Required Experience: Minimum 4 years of dedicated experience as a Systems Administrator, with substantial Tier III support background.

  • Required Certifications: Compliant with IAT Level II certification as per DOD 8570 requirements.

  • Required Skills and Experience: Knowledge and hands-on experience with VMWare, Windows Server 2019, and Cisco Hyperflex Services. Dual-platform expertise in both Windows and Linux administration. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced team setting. Occasionally required physical activity for equipment troubleshooting.

  • German TESA eligibility.


  • Advanced networking and cybersecurity certifications (e.g., CCNP Security, CISSP).
