At GDIT, people are our differentiator. We are seeking a talented and motivated SQL DBA to support the Army National Guard's (ARNG's) National Capital Region Director of Information Management (NCR DOIM).  The NCR DOIM is responsible for the operation, maintenance, modernization, expansion, and further evolution of the IT services and infrastructure that support over 3,000 end users at the ARNG headquarters in Arlington, VA as well as other locations in the National Capital Region (NCR).  This includes supporting the ARNG NCR Campus Area Network (CAN), Local Area Network (LAN), server and storage infrastructure, end user devices to include virtual desktop infrastructure, and audio/visual equipment.  Major support requirements include network administration, service desk, network and IT engineering, audio and video services to include telephony, telecommunications management, asset management, equipment maintenance and disposition, cybersecurity, and Continuity of Operations (COOP).  

To be successful in this position you need to be collaborative and willing to work within a team. While you will need to be a self-starter, completing tasks on your own, working together is critical in this role. You will be interfacing with users and senior staff. Therefore, you should be articulate in your communications. You will need to explain technical intricacies to end users in a way that is easily understood. You will need to maintain a high-level customer service focus, exhibiting expertise, courtesy, timeliness, and professionalism. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The NCR DOIM uses ITIL best practices as a framework for a mature IT Service Management model.  As a mid-level SQL admin on the NCR DOIM team, responsibilities will include the design, installation, and maintenance of Microsoft SQL Server 2012/2014/2016 servers in virtualized environments.  The SQL admin will work with and support the other members of the project team in support of applications such as SCCM, SCOM, and SharePoint.  The SQL admin will be responsible for the creation of low-level design, implementation, and documentation.  The SQL admin will be expected to participate in engineering design reviews, articulate complex designs, and build decision briefs for leadership to make recommendations for technology lifecycles refreshes, and solutions to customer requirements.  Assists in the installation and configuration of hardware and software applications. Schedules the installation of new or modified hardware, operating systems, and software applications.  Writes program scripts to facilitate backup and recovery procedures. Interacts with other information technology (IT) specialists in systems design, resource utilization and hardware/software installations.  Provide timely task update status to of all assigned tasks to the project manager and members of the leadership team.

Experienced candidates should be proficient in the following:

  • Install, configure, and manage multiple SQL server environments with high availability and disaster recovery, to include Monitoring, Analysis, Reporting, and Data Warehouse Services and solutions.

  • Experience with SQL Server availability group design, documentation, and operation.

  • Experience with SQL Server encryption using transparent data encryption (TDE) and PKI certificates.

  • Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, and McAfee products.

  • Experience in securing a SQL environment to include applying and documenting DISA’s Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)

  • Experience upgrading Microsoft SQL Server 2012/2014/2016, to include creating documentation experience working with, upgrading and documenting SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) 2012/2014/2016 to the current decoupled versions of SSMS V.17.6 (and beyond).

  • Ability to understand, write, and execute T-SQL and PowerShell scripts.

  • Create, execute, manage, and validate database server backups via SSMS --> Management tasks, while leveraging forward thinking concepts, processes, and technology that meet the organizations Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO).

  • Working with System Owners to periodically review RPO’s and RTO’s to determine suitability.

  • Proficiency in monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security via SQL Server tools.

  • Experience with the troubleshoot techniques and analysis of SQL Server service outages and performance issues as they occur in real time.

  • Identify and automate regular/daily processes, track new and reoccurring issues, and document changes defined by the organization’s configuration management processes.

  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after core business hours.

  • Experience with SQL Server reporting services (SSRS) integration and operation

  • Experience with Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) and Online Transaction Processing (OLTP)

  • Ability to organize and plan work independently or collaboratively.

  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills, Outstanding customer service, team building, and consensus building skill are a must.

  • Analytically inclined with attention to detail and accuracy and consistent follow-through to assure problems are resolved with the ability to respond to last minute requests.

  • Ability to identify and articulate key information in an efficient and timely manner.

  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment when handling situational occurrences.

  • Analyzes and recommends alternative solutions to meet customer needs.

  • Must have excellent multi-tasking and time management skills.

  • Supports the team process and participates on cross-functional teams.

  • Responsible for handling after-hours on call support (when necessary).

  • Answer phones and respond to emails in a timely manner.

  • Participate in special projects as required

  • Notify the team lead of all requests for support that require additional resources which result in a delay of resolution

  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned

  • May coach and provide guidance to less-experienced professionals

  • Able to work under time constraints 

  • Maintain and upgrade certifications

  • Strong written and verbal English language skills.

  • Willing to perform other duties as assigned

  • Use ticketing system to:

  • o   Proactively check help desk queue for new emails and create and assign Remedy tickets for those emails.

  • o   Ensure that tickets are actively being worked on and updated, and that no tickets are unassigned

  • o   Escalate tickets as needed.

  • o   Ensure all tickets worked include the problem, the solution, the end user, initiation and completion time, and end user satisfaction. 

  • o   The resolution shall be in sufficient detail to allow another administrator, not familiar with the problem, sufficient information to resolve the same or similar problem without extensively researching the issue again.

Clearance Requirements:

  • Must have a minimum of a Secret clearance on hire and confirmed. 

Certification Requirements:  

  • Active/Current CompTIA Security+ ce certification

  • Computing environment certification (e.g., SQL certification, Microsoft)

  • If you start only with a Security+ ce, continued employment will be contingent on receiving the additional SQL/Windows certification within 3 months after your start date.  

 Work Location: 

  • Client Site, Arlington, VA

  • Monday-Friday normal business hours

  • Hybrid support.

Travel:  

  • Availability to travel, but less than 10%.  Most team members do not have to travel.
