At GDIT, people are our differentiator. Our Finance Services Organization is seeking a General Accounting Director in Falls Church, VA. This position will oversee and lead a high functioning organization of approximately 100 employees supporting General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Banking/Treasury, Account Reconciliation Administration and Accounting Compliance to provide excellent customer service and support to General Dynamics Information Technology and General Dynamics Mission Systems.

The Desired candidate:

  • Must have a proven ability to lead a diverse organization with direct reports and employees in multiple locations, and the ability to effectively work with senior leadership across General Dynamics Information Technology and General Dynamics Mission Systems to provide technical advice, research and direction.
  • Assist with the stabilization of the General Accounting organization with the integration of a large acquisition and a consolidated ERP implementation
  • Ensure all transactions are recorded in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Must have the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the organization by identifying and driving continuous improvement and efficiency in processes
  • Ensure compliance with SOX and internal control audits and provide external audit support
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to support key company initiatives
  • Establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures and identify new policies and areas of improvement
  • Drive the development and tasking of accounting personnel to ensure efficient departmental operations, adequate cross-training and career mobility


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, and CPA required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in a Defense Contracting environment or comparable relevant industry experience.
  • Deep understanding and application of GAAP requirements, preferably in the defense contracting industry


  • Master's Degree in related field preferred
  • Understanding and application of SEC requirements
  • Demonstrated track record of excellent leadership and team skills required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with people at all levels
  • Ability to work with little direction and have the ability to handle multiple tasks successfully and simultaneously
  • Agile and proven ability to adapt to the changing needs of the business
  • Ability to leverage technology and innovation to drive efficiencies
  • Attention to detail and willingness to do what it takes to get the job done
  • Must have strong influencing, team building and conflict resolution skills
  • Must be able to travel on a periodic basis
  • Must be fully proficient in MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of Oracle ERP highly preferred
