Job Description

GDIT is seeking a Technical Writer to help support our MCSIL program.

A Technical Writer with a focus on technical writing is needed to join our growing MCSIL program in Point Mugu, California. You will collaborate with engineers and fleet support trainers to develop useful and engaging content (technical manuals, checklists, software user manuals) for our user base. Your duties will include updating and managing the company’s knowledge base regularly and working with hardware engineers and software developers to create new and update existing documents user documentation as new goods and services are released.

This position requires the person to work at the customer site in Point Mugu Naval Air Station, CA.

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Support the organization’s Logistics team as a technical writer for the program’s family of systems.
  • Create and refine technical information and other various materials for explaining products and services of complex technical information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Maintain document standards regarding format, previously selected fonts and other typographic elements
  • Ensure projects are completed on time and meet quality standards
  • Recommend best practices and optimizations throughout content generation projects
  • Collaborate with fellow technical communicators to develop new approaches for creating more precise and engaging knowledge base artifacts for the program
  • Manage complex information and multiple projects within content specifications
  • Use organizations’ voice and messaging for written pieces to reinforce a one author voice in publications
  • QA content for errors and redline and edit for other logisticians
  • Implement comprehensive technical documentation, feedback, and changes whenever possible
  • Create documentation that accurately conveys the technical characteristics, usage and maintenance of various systems

Qualifications:

  • Must be US Citizen and able to obtain a Secret clearance
  • Current Secret Clearance preferred
  • BA/BS (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years experience
  • Technical degree preferred
  • Proficiency in word processor programs such as Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and PDF software such as Adobe Acrobat 
  • Familiarity with systems development life cycle (SDLC)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with HTML and CSS preferred
  • Experience with both print and digital media formats

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $71,200 - $106,800, this is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary; rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
