Server Administrator

As a Server Administrator supporting the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), National Biomedical Contractor Support Services IDIQ project, you will be trusted to provide exceptional health care that improves Veteran health and well-being. This mission guides the Office of Healthcare Technology Management’s (HTM) support for patient care to provide the right care, in the right place, at the right time.

The ideal Server Administrator will perform duties related to technology assessment, technology implementation, and healthcare consulting that support the VA’s Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM).  The Cerner Corporation’s electronic health record (EHR) will replace the VA’s existing EHR.  The Biomedical Engineer will assist in the medical device integration and interfacing with selected clinical systems for a more seamless diagnosis and care documentation process.

Job Duties:

• Systems administration of desktop and server systems connected to local and wide area networks. Desktop system management responsibilities involving account monitoring, security, Operating System (OS) installation, and other local area system administration related functions.
• Provide support for implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance of IT systems and management of system infrastructure and any processes related to these systems
• Provide support to IT systems including day-to-day operations, monitoring and problem resolution for all of the client/server/storage/network devices, mobile devices, etc.
• Provide Tier 2 problem identification, diagnosis and resolution
• Install/load operating system and application software
• Isolate and resolve hardware and software problems involving the applications, the operating system, the hardware, the communications infrastructure, or any combination therefore
• Perform software installations and upgrades to Unix/Windows operating systems and layered software packages and maintains them in accordance with established policies, procedures and service level agreements; evaluation and installation of software/hardware patches and resolution of software related problems associated with COTS/GOTS products
• Conduct routine and emergency maintenance of assigned data center equipment
• Collaborate and contribute to the development, administration, and testing of backup and recovery plans
• Maintain operational, configuration, and other standard operating procedures (SOPs)

Required Skills:

• Associates Degree and 3+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience.
• UNIX, Windows, and/or Storage administration
• Experience working with trouble reporting and tracking systems
• Ability to obtain a public trust clearance
• Green card or US Citizen

Physical Requirements:

• The employee will need to be able to lift/move/carry equipment as necessary (max 40 pounds)

Desired Skills:

• IT Fundamentals or A+ certification or equivalent
• Experience Installing, loading and troubleshooting hospital related application software
• Knowledge of the VA’s processes and procedures and of the Customer’s production systems a plus
• Prefer skills in one or more of the following: Window Server, Red Hat, IRIX, Solaris,
• Sybase, Informix, SQL, and Imagery Production Chain
• General knowledge of database administration, network administration and possess network configuration management skills.
