At GDIT, we foster a people-centric environment. As a Data Engineer Junior, you will be trusted to work on projects related to the role. In this role, a typical day will include:


  • Import new data sets into an existing search application.

  • Perform ad hoc data engineering and analysis.

  • Create new applications for analyzing, querying and displaying documents and property graphs.

  • Work with users to define their data requirements and to assist with ad hoc data analysis.

  • Troubleshoot complex problems and provide support for software systems and application issues.

  • Work alongside other engineers on the team to sustain and advance the organization’s capabilities.


  • Undergraduate or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering or related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience.

  • Two or more years of experience in data engineering, from the design of a common data format to the data pipelines that extract, transform, normalize and load the data.

  • Two or more years of hands-on development with C/C++, C#, or Java in Microsoft Windows environment.

  • Expertise with SQL programming.

  • Demonstrated success in developing software applications through all stages, including requirements generation/gathering, data engineering (data extract/transform/load), web service implementation, and user interface.

  • Proven record of independently learning and applying new technologies.

  • Ability to deliver on multiple competing priorities with little supervision.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.


  • TS/SCI with Polygraph

  • A minimum of 2 years of in-depth data engineering experience.

  • A minimum of 2 years of hands-on development with C/C++, C# or Java in Microsoft Windows environment.

  • Proven ability to work with both technical team members and non-technical users.


  • Knowledge of Python.

  • Experience with entity resolution across data sets.

  • Experience with Oracle databases, and specifically Oracle Text.

  • Expertise with SQL.

  • Experience with link/graph analysis.

  • In depth experience with building text search applications.

  • Experience with Linux.
