The Global Freight Management (GFM) system supports the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC) as the surface transportation component of the United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM), which leads the Department of Defense with all of their military transportation requirements. GDIT provides development, maintenance, and sustainment support for the GFM as partners with the SDDC. GFM is comprised of more than a dozen web-based/cloud-based applications which facilitate the communication between SDDC, shipping businesses, and commercial transport companies in support of the bidding, selection, and coordination of military equipment and personnel requiring transportation anywhere around the world.
To support this requirement, GDIT is seeking a Scrum Master. A successful candidate can demonstrate the following:
The position will support a Department of Defense program that is playing a major role in leveraging the commercial transportation industry to support the movement and relocation of DoD personnel, equipment, and supplies. As part of this effort, GDIT has deployed software/database development teams leveraging Agile/Scrum processes to deliver updates through repeated sprint cycles. The position requires the successful candidate to lead and guide multiple development teams through proper Agile and Scrum processes and methodologies.
Organize and facilitate SCRUM ceremonies: daily standups, Sprint Planning/Backlog Refinement, Sprint Reviews/Demos, and Retrospectives
Maintain JIRA and other information radiators for the teams
Lead the scrum team in moderate to high complexity work streams. Oversee scrum process and coach the teams on how to use scrum and Agile practices and methodology
Enable team to become self-organizing and self-managing to achieve its goals
Motivate teams to perform and ensure team members are collectively responsible for all aspects of the committed work (analysis, development, testing, documentation, etc.)
Identify, address, and communicate project risks, dependencies, and team impediments
Ensure the team’s “definition of done” is well defined on the story, sprint, and release levels
Facilitate productivity through discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution
Shield the team from external interferences
Assist with internal and external communication, and improving transparency
Build a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised with an emphasis on problem solving
Assess the Scrum maturity of the team and coach the team to higher levels of maturity at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team
Participate in Scrum of Scrum meetings to ensure cross-team collaboration and coordination of release plans and integration of testing activities
Establish and maintain strong working relationships with all stakeholders, including customers
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and at least 4 years related experience as a project team member
A minimum of 2 years' experience in Agile software development including coaching on agile methodologies, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Possess a Scrum Master certification
Experience managing projects following Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, Extreme Programming, and SAFe
Experience managing multi-system projects and self-organized, cross-functional project teams in a matrixed environment
Familiar with Agile values, principles, processes, and methods such as iterative and incremental development, continuous integration, test-driven development (TDD), unit testing, code refactoring, pair programming, and Scrum ceremonies
Experience working with customers in gathering requirements, modeling use cases, writing user stories and documenting business processes
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and be effective at communicating with both technical and non-technical audiences
Moderate knowledge of the JIRA tracking tool
Energetic, goal oriented, proactive, innovative, hardworking, and patient
The likely salary range for this position is $67,683 - $113,048, this is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary; rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
