Building Stronger Communities: GDIT Employees Giving Back

April 25th, 2024

OUR CULTURE

Learn more about GDIT's commitment to making an impact on local communities.

At GDIT, our employees’ dedication to making a positive impact in our world extends far beyond the critical work they do for our customers. Whether it’s mentoring youth, supporting veterans, or addressing environmental challenges, many GDITers are donating their time and energy to giving back to the communities where they live and work.

This National Volunteer Week, we’re shining a spotlight on a few of our employees’ volunteer efforts. Let's dive into their inspiring stories:

As the founder of the MMISBRUNNR organization, Intelligence Analyst, Tim Lewis, has dedicated himself to creating a space where veterans can come together to heal through farming. By addressing food insecurity, Tim's initiative not only provides sustenance but also fosters a sense of purpose among veterans through continued service. His vision goes beyond growing food; it's about nurturing growth within individuals and communities.

“I’m deeply thankful for GDIT’s commitment to fostering volunteerism and backing the causes important to their employees. This support significantly enhances our ability to make a difference with MMISBRUNNR, and I'm especially grateful for this chance to share our mission and work. Initiatives like these amplify the impact of our collective efforts and showcase the power of community involvement.”

With over 29 years of service as a VA state-certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for the Ocean Park Volunteer Fire & Rescue Squad, Financial Analyst, Tiffany Robbins embodies dedication to her community. She says, “Volunteering provides me with a sense of purpose and it’s something I enjoy doing. I feel a connection to my community and hope that makes a difference.”

As a lifelong animal lover, Senior Systems Engineer, Karen Wilkey, found fulfillment in volunteering at the Potter League for Animals in Rhode Island. “At first, I would socialize with the cats several days a week and would also clean the cat spaces one day a week. Pets are so important to many of us. They bring comfort, unconditional love, and companionship into our lives and in return we give them a loving, safe, and healthy home.”

For over two decades, Training Specialist Sr Advisor, Stacy Hall has been a dedicated volunteer for Meals on Wheels in San Diego, providing essential support to those in need. He and his family deliver meals and necessary interaction to 7-16 seniors and vulnerable adults. “Being a friendly face at the door with a hot meal enables many older adults, veterans of any age with disabilities, their caregivers and even their pets to remain in their home for as long as possible, which is an invaluable gift.”

Steve Wynne, Quality Analysis Manager, is a long-term coach of local academic robotics teams in Egg Harbor, NJ. Last year's team was a three-time state champion, and a top-five team out of 7000 teams in the world! The non-profit he volunteers with aims to inspire youth to be science and technology leaders and innovators through engagements with exciting mentor-based programs built upon science, engineering, technology, and life skills.

As we celebrate National Volunteer Week, let's take a moment to honor the selfless contributions of GDIT employees like Tim, Tiffany, Karen, Stacy, and Steve. Their commitment to serving others and making a positive impact in their communities is truly inspiring and we’re proud to support their chosen causes through our GDIT Cares initiative, Dollars for Doers. Together, we can continue to create positive change and build stronger, more resilient communities.

I’m deeply thankful for GDIT’s commitment to fostering volunteerism and backing the causes important to their employees. Initiatives like these amplify the impact of our collective efforts and showcase the power of community involvement.
