Job Description

Program System Safety Lead

GDIT is seeking a Program System Safety Lead to join our team in Huntsville, AL. The qualified applicant will cover safety lead, system safety engineering and system safety analysis on multiple platform rotary aircraft systems and projects from aircraft modifications, overhauls, and commercial products installations.

How the Program System Safety Lead will make an impact:

  • Supports system performance and analysis activities for the Cargo Helicopter International Product Office, to include but not limited to technical development, design, parts integration, test, and evaluation of multiple Army weapon systems.

  • Oversees and manages the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serves as liaison between technical project management and planning, technical teams, and line management.

  • Reviews status of projects and budgets, manages schedules, and prepares status reports.

  • Assesses project technical issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and objectives.

  • Develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers. 

  • Participates as a member of Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) ensuring application of systems and airworthiness principles through aircraft lifecycle phases.

  • With minimal direction, performs most tasks necessary to ensure the identification Safety Critical Items and documentation of hazards within systems. Understands the basic elements of system safety engineering to include hazard analyses, hazard management, risk management, mitigation requirements identification, documentation, tracking and implementing, and residual risk assessment.

  • Typical analyses performed include but are not limited to: Hazard Analyses, hazard mitigation, Safety risk assessments. 

  • Develops safety documents as required to support aircraft and test, operational, or flight airworthiness.

  • Leads and supports various System Safety Working Groups (SSWG).

  • As necessary participate in accident investigations involving damage to products or related facilities and assists in identification of causes and corrective actions.

​​What you'll need to be successful:

  • Familiar with Microsoft programs - Excel, word, PowerPoint

  • Familiar with Safety documents AR385-10 and Mil-std-882E.

  • An active Secret security clearance

  • Fundamental understanding of aircraft dynamics and controls, flight mechanics, aerodynamics and propulsion is a plus. Experience with Bell Helicopter Platforms, Si-70 or UH-60, Huey II, OH-58, AH-6i, and MD530 variant aircraft a plus.

  • HS Diploma (or greater) with 15+ years, or BS with 10+ years or MS with 8+ years

Highly Desirable Experience:

  • Army Safety Officer Course and/or licensed Pilot experience

  • Previous experience in Aviation System Safety as a Safety Officer, System Safety Engineer or System Safety Lead a must have.

  • Previous Safety Officer or SRD experience desirable

  • Direct experience and involvement in acquisition processes, like SSWGs and SRD on development of safety information.

  • Experience with SSMPs and RDMs

  • Experience in US ARMY program office is desired, to include PM ASE, PM Cargo, PM Utility, PM Apache, PM Fixed Wing highly desired.

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $119,000 - $161,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
