Job Description

The Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) is responsible for multiple functions across the spectrum of the HP program by providing and facilitating injury prevention, basic care, acute care, effective rehabilitative care, and performance enhancement. The ATC provides and performs the following services in support of the HP program for personnel, with the priority of agency personnel.

HOW A CERTIFIED ATHLETIC TRAINER WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE:

  • Provides HP services within the scope of practice as defined by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA).
  • Designs and fabricate protective pads, equipment, and braces to help prevent and treat injuries, including the use of taping techniques.
  • Provides instruction and guidance within the scope of practice.
  • Participates in periodic meetings to review the care provided to patients to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Serves as advisor to the HP program Manager and/or Coordinator in matters related to injury prevention, sports medicine, rehabilitation, and bridging.
  • Serves as an advisor to the HP Program Manager and/or Coordinator for administrative matters, purchasing of supplies and equipment, and supplemental fiscal requests.
  • Collaborates throughout the HP program to enhance the quality of patient care delivered.
  • Conducts equipment, product, and literature reviews to ensure HP stays current with the provision of care.
  • Participates in quarterly peer (record) reviews for non-privileged healthcare providers.
  • Attends and participates in meetings with other program staff members and medical personnel as requested and/or required.
  • Assists the HP program Manager and/or Coordinator in developing and updating criteria-based job descriptions and performance standards.
  • Assists the HP program Manager and/or Coordinator in developing and maintaining clinical practice guidelines to ensure consistency of care across all Human Performance Training Centers (HPTCs).
  • Assists with the preparation of short and long-term fiscal plans. Submit input to the HP program Manager and/or Coordinator.
  • Develops and promulgates training materials as requested and required by the HP program Manager and/or Coordinator.
  • Ensures safe and effective operation of equipment used for patient care and contributes to a safe working environment.
  • Attend required training in accordance with guiding instructions. Commands will allow for attendance at necessary conferences or courses to complete continuing education units required to maintain certification.
  • Performs clinical and administrative tasks as assigned by the HP program Manager and/or Coordinator.
  • Documents care provided, work performed, utilization, referrals, and all other information in the Military’s Electronic Health Record (i.e., AHLTA, GENESIS, etc.) and/or the HP Enterprise- wide database (i.e., SPEAR), as directed by HP program Manager and/or Coordinator and required by headquarters and program staff.
  • Performs other tasks, within the scope of the ATC position description, as assigned by the HP program Manager and/or Coordinator.
  • Collects and reports all data as requested by the HP program Manager and/or Coordinator and required by headquarters and program staff.
  • Literately utilize computers, software, and technologies as required and requested by the HP program Manager and/or Coordinator and required by headquarters and program staff.
  • Loads or weights up to 25 kilograms.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years or more of accumulated experience (continuous and sustained experience preferred) as an ATC with individual athletes and groups of athletes at levels of NCAA Collegiate, Olympic, professional sports, and/or military personnel in the accompanying respective settings.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (master’s degree preferred) in Athletic training.
  • Must be NATABOC Certified.
  • Experience in the field of strength and conditioning is strongly recommended but not required.
  • Possess and maintain current certification by the National Strength and Conditioning
  • Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or shall obtain the certification within the first year of employment.
  • Valid unrestricted license from one of the 50 United States or its territories.
  • Must maintain credentials requirements in good standing at a local MTF where applicable.
  • Must meet physical demands of training with military personnel including the ability to hike over rough terrain and function in austere environments to observe military personnel training evolutions and the ability to assist with strength and conditioning testing and training protocols, and lift and manipulate.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic training

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • NATABOC Certification
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification
  • Must have a valid unrestricted Athletic Trainer License

CLEARANCE: Must possess a Top Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI

This is a contingent posting, expected to start in 2026.

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $43,888 - $0. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range. Total compensation for international positions varies by tax, social security, and immigration statuses, as well as location. Generally, an international assignment may include allowances, premium uplifts, and/or relocation or transportation benefits, above base salary range noted.
