Job Description

As an A/V Engineering Manager at GDIT you'll manage and coach a small technical team ensuring a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement. This team will design install, maintain, and troubleshoot audio and visual systems, including UC (Zoom/Teams), live events, and multimedia presentations, ensuring optimal sound and picture quality for audiences by selecting appropriate equipment, configuring settings, and managing system integration across various environments.


HOW AN AV ENGINEERING MANAGER WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

  • Coach and provide guidance to less-experienced professionals

  • Collaborating with Executives and clients to determine AV needs before an event

  • Transporting, setting up and connecting all audio-visual equipment for live performances

  • Collaborating with IT staff to integrate AV systems into network infrastructure

  • Designs and defines system architecture for new or existing AV systems

  • Ability to understand as built line drawings, and project schedules; Project management skills and experience leading AV projects

  • Installing permanent AV equipment in conference rooms

  • Testing the equipment to ensure everything is connected correctly and the signal is strong

  • Experience with AV control systems like Crestron, Extron. Production level knowledge of Zoom/Teams

  • Expertise in networking and IP-based AV solutions

  • Comfortable working with cabling, wiring, and electrical systems

  • Strong understanding of acoustics and sound system design

  • Ability to work well under pressure manage multiple tasks simultaneously and make decisions quickly

  • Familiarity with video production and editing software

  • Staying up-to-date with the latest AV technologies and industry trends

  • Flexibility to travel to different sites for installations and support

  • Prepares and maintains documentation for processes and procedures

  • Maintains current knowledge of rapidly changing AV technology and works with management to evolve current designs and processes


WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • Education/Experience: Bachelors degree with 5+ years of related experience. In lieu of degree, 9+ years of related experience required.

  • Leadership/Supervisory Experience: 5+ years recent demonstrated management of an A/V technical team

  • Required Technical Skills: Knowledge in the architecture and design of complex AV systems; demonstrated TEAMS/Zoom expertise

  • Clear Communication: Translating technical problems into simple, actionable language; making sure team members always know expectations, priorities, and timelines.

  • Prioritization & Delegation: Managing workload efficiently so the right team member is assigned the right task, especially during high‑demand moments (e.g., concurrent executive meetings).

  • Calm Under Pressure: AV issues often happen live. The manager must stay composed, focus the team, and communicate clearly during rapid problem‑solving.

  • Conflict Resolution: Ability to manage disagreements within the team in a professional, constructive manner.

  • Coaching Mindset: Developing team members’ technical and professional skills; providing regular feedback and fostering a growth mindset.

  • Resource Planning: Ability to anticipate staffing needs for major events, off-hours coverage, or executive travel support

  • Executive Presence: Confidence, professionalism, and poise when interacting with C‑Suite leaders. Ability to be calm, credible, and concise.

  • Discretion & Confidentiality: Understanding that executives may discuss sensitive information; maintaining strict professionalism at all times.

  • Anticipatory Thinking: Predicting needs before an executive asks—testing equipment early, identifying risks, and preparing backups.

  • Polished Communication: Providing clear, brief updates—no technical jargon. Executives want direct, solutions‑focused communication.

  • Customer Service: High‑touch support mindset; making executives feel prioritized, supported, and confident in AV capabilities.

  • Adaptability: Flexibility to switch gears quickly as executive schedules change or last-second meeting requirements pop up.

  • Professional Demeanor: Composure, patience, and a friendly, polished attitude even in stressful or demanding situations.

  • Proactive daily maintenance and quality checks of building conference room and components

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $142,792 - $172,500. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
