Lead the Platform Engineering team responsible for end‑user platform engineering, image management, endpoint protection, software distribution, and desktop/mobile operating system engineering. You will set technical direction, manage platform roadmaps, coordinate with vendors and stakeholders, and ensure reliable, secure, and scalable end‑user computing services across the federal customer’s environment.

U.S. Citizenship and a background investigation are required; you must have a current clean financial background. The role requires flexibility to support issues or planned activities after hours, weekends and holidays as needed. Successful candidate must possess and be able to demonstrate technical skills and engineering attitude for success, dedication and commitment.

MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT

As a Platform Engineering Team Lead, the work you do at GDIT directly supports the mission by ensuring secure, stable, and high‑performing end‑user computing platforms across thousands of devices and applications. You will drive modernization, automation, image lifecycle management, secure baseline development, and endpoint protection improvements, enhancing performance, reducing incidents, and improving user experience.

• Lead the team responsible for desktop/mobile OS engineering, image management, endpoint protection, software distribution, and unified endpoint management.
• Partner with security teams, engineering teams, OEM vendors, application owners, and customer stakeholders to resolve complex issues, plan upgrades, and maintain compliance.
• Guide platform modernization, secure baseline development, automation, and lifecycle management activities.

ADDITIONAL ROLE-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Platform Engineering & OS Baseline Management

• Develop and maintain desktop and mobile OS baselines.
• Create Group Policies, Modern Policies, scripts, and technical documentation.
• Define OS, application, encryption, security, and image requirements.
• Build and maintain Core Images and profiles across multiple device models and OS versions.
• Support OS lifecycle management, quarterly updates, testing, and validation.

Software Packaging & Distribution

• Script, package, and test applications for Windows and macOS.
• Manage deployment tools and self‑service portals.
• Support offline deployment methods when needed.

Endpoint Protection Engineering

• Engineer, deploy, and troubleshoot endpoint protection agents (e.g., McAfee, Carbon Black).
• Ensure central management consoles and modules function properly.
• Support SOC workflows, log collection, and malware containment.

Image Engineering & Management

• Develop test and release plans for image validation.
• Coordinate customer application testing and image approval.
• Maintain offline OS media and support remote build processes.

Platform Break‑Fix & Tier 3 Support

• Provide Tier 3 support for escalated desktop/mobile issues.
• Troubleshoot OS, application, and patching issues alongside customer teams.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.

Required Experience

5+ years diverse IT experience in:
• Microsoft Intune
• Windows 11 + Modern Policies
• Virtual Desktop environments
• MS Defender for Endpoint
• Microsoft 365 applications
• CrowdStrike EDR
• End‑user device engineering/support
• Windows Server, desktop apps, Wintel hardware
• Cloud technologies and SaaS solutions
• End‑user platform management tools
• Preferred: experience in a managed services IT environment

Required Technical Skills

• Expertise in OS engineering, image engineering, Group/Modern Policies, secure baselines (including DISA STIGs), and endpoint protection.
• Proficiency in endpoint privilege management.
• Strong scripting/automation skills (PowerShell preferred).

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $128,039 - $173,229. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
