HOW A CLOUD OPERATIONS LEAD WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
As the Cloud Operations Lead, you will oversee enterprise cloud operations across the VA Enterprise Cloud (VAEC)—ensuring availability, reliability, security compliance, capacity optimization, and modernization readiness across all cloud service providers.
You will manage cloud operational workflows, orchestration pipelines, monitoring tools, incident processes, service catalog offerings, and capacity forecasts. You will work closely with cloud engineers, incident responders, cybersecurity teams, architects, and VA stakeholders to maintain resilient multi‑cloud environments and improve observability, automation, and operational performance.
You will maintain and refine cloud governance standards, validate monitoring coverage, ensure security and TIC compliance, coordinate incident handling, and oversee change alignment across VA’s cloud infrastructure. You will design and manage cloud performance measurement systems, streamline response workflows, enhance automation, and integrate cloud operations with hosting, development, cybersecurity, and network teams.
You will engage with VA leadership to provide operational insights, incident reviews, capacity and demand assessments, modernization roadmaps, and reliability recommendations. You will drive continuous improvement by identifying operational gaps, optimizing autoscaling and orchestration processes, strengthening documentation, expanding automation, and maturing cloud performance management practices.
Your work ensures VA’s cloud environments remain secure, scalable, resilient, and mission‑ready.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and 5+ years of experience
• Experience leading cloud operations, monitoring, major incident response, or cloud governance in enterprise IT environments
• Demonstrated expertise with multi‑cloud environments (Azure, AWS, VAEC), cloud monitoring tools, and operational frameworks
• Strong understanding of ITSM, cloud service delivery, cloud governance, and enterprise‑class configuration management
• Ability to evaluate cloud documentation, workflows, capacity models, monitoring systems, and operational outputs for completeness, accuracy, and compliance
• Experience developing cloud performance plans, audit artifacts, dashboards, and corrective‑action processes
• Excellent written, analytical, and stakeholder communication skills
• Ability to collaborate across cloud engineering, network, cybersecurity, hosting operations, and federal organizations
Desired Qualifications
• Experience supporting VA, federal programs, or large regulated cloud environments
• Cloud certifications (Azure, AWS, multi‑cloud operations, monitoring, or DevOps certifications), ITILv4, Six Sigma, or similar credentials
• Familiarity with cloud security requirements, vulnerability management, TIC standards, VA Handbook 6500, and cloud governance practices
• Experience with cloud orchestration, automation frameworks, incident management tools, monitoring platforms, APIs, and performance analytics
Security Clearance
• Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance

The likely salary range for this position is $136,000 - $184,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
