Maintenance Trades Helper - WELDER Trainee

Job Qualifications/Skills:

Blueprints, Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Hand Tools, Welding Machines, Sandblasting

Job Description Summary:

Applies basic welding processes with pulse MIG and/or TIG to aluminum, stainless and carbon steel to join, surface, fabricate or repair parts of metal or other weldable materials.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

May lay out and mark points on parts or subassemblies using rulers, squares, scribes, or templates.

May position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools.

Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.

Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures.

Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.

Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements.

Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded.

Align components using calipers, rulers, etc. and clamp pieces.

Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead).

Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps.

Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.

Education and Experience:

0-2 years of related experience

Requires a High School Diploma or GED.

Technical or Vocations Training preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

Ability to following written and verbal instructions.

Knowledge of basic welding procedures.

Knowledge of geometry, weld shrinkage, welding techniques, and physical properties of metal.

Willing to invest and shows initiative and quality craftsmanship.

Subject to testing of welding quals.

Willing to invest and shows initiative and quality craftsmanship.

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely hourly rate for this position is between $15.06 - $20.38. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
